The Edge system cost.

I have never had a problem with the cost of the EDGE pads. You get 2 in 1 and they center up and I never have to replace my backing plate. I have some pads that are 5-6 months old and get washed in the machine every other night.

They are simply some of the highest quality pads out there.
Agree, I could never go back to backing plate pads after trying them. Edge rocks:bigups

I've used 100's of Edge and LC pads and the only problem that has come up with each of them is the center hole being off center. I've never had a problem with them delaminating one bit. I really like the edge system, but I'm not yet sold on the 2-sided pad thing. I like to mark each of my pads with the product's name that was used on in to avoid cross cantamination. Bottom line is that the end result won't be any different no matter which pad manufacturer's pad you you. It's more of a convienience thing really. It might save me 10-20 seconds with the Edge system over the conventional way. It takes me about 30 seconds to rip off a velcro'd pad, grap my pad centering tool, insert it into the backing plate and slide the pad over it. Not that big of a deal really.

That's why there is both. To each their own. I'm just glad we have so many high quality products to choose from!

Where would I find a pad centering tool?

most pads with a hole in the center have a cardboard plug for centering or use a Megs backing plate with the button and a pad with the center cut out.

well this thread kind of back fired on the OP, lol.

I too have the Edge system and like it. I've never used LC, but I may give them a shot in the future. I really like my Edge kit (all 5 pads, 2 MF's, adapter, XMT pad cleaner and conditioner for $100).

Make sure you press the center button down on the adapter when taking off and putting on pads.

Maybe in your mind, not in mine, LOL.

Not to be a *******, but how does that work? Thanks.

Very simple. You're backing plate and your velco backed pad both have a hole perfectly in the center of each one. You insert your centering tool into your backing plate and slide your pad down the backing plate shaft and onto the backing plate. It positions itself perfectly in the center of the backing plate. I think one of the most important factors in swirl free buffing is to have your pad centered. One of the nice things the Edge system does is that it takes the eliminates the chance for error out of centering your pad. I like that alot. Especially for beginners. One of my problems is that I already have dozens of velcro backed pads in use. I'd be forced to either buy a separate buffer for the Edge system, or switch the complete mounting system each time I go back and forth between systems. That defeats the use for the system (for me). Maybe some day?

So, you don't ever wash your pads?

If you're referring to putting them in the washing machine/laundering them, it's not necessary. I think that's the #1 reason why people's pads delaminate and wear out prematurely. If you spur your pads(foam/wool), they don't need anything else. You can go 1 step further and invest in a pad washer (5 gallon bucket type), but pads don't need to be washed. Alot of people feel the need to wash them, especially when they use the same one with different products. 1 pad should be dedicated to 1 product, and should never be used with anything else. That's why I mark the back of each pad with permanant marker. It can really make a difference.

David when you say "Spur" the pads are you talking about Rotary pads only, are ones used on a PC/Cyclo and rotary?

What do you consider the best "Spur" brand/whatever to use, same one on all three machines, whatever?

You have provided some invaluable information over the last few months and I would like you to know I really appreciate it. It doesn't take to long if you really read through the links to find out who knows what and has there s**t together with a willingness to help those that are new to the "passion" of detailing!

Not to mention those that are just plain slow to new things and have to ask questions every step of the way, I guess thats me!

I totally agree with you on your point about machine washing shortening the life of pads. I wash mine in a bucket and a lot of times they just get washed under the faucet of my sink.

As an enthusiast detailer who tries a lot of different products during the year, I would find it cost prohibitive to dedicate one pad to each product I use. So, I wash them instead. I could see how it could work for you though being a professional detailer.

Alot of times with a alot of product(especially abrasive ones), the product doesn't completely get washed out of your pad. It gets embedded into it and machine washing/hand washing/power washing won't get it clean. That can cause a problem. Just be careful.

That brings up a good point- you won't always get it *all* out. So even if you do wash your pads out thoroughly (I do it by hand too), marking the pads for the application can still be a good idea. Even if I decide to use a different product on the same pad for some reason, I use the previous application as a guide (I'll go more aggressive but not less) and I'll then relabel with the last-used product.

Why don't I just send you a free adapter and eliminate that problem for you??
