The Art of Detailing, detailing an Airstream!

This thread will follow this amazing project, which will then be in my YouTube series, The Art of Detailing.

Detailing a motorhome is a lot different then detailing a regular car. I have learned a whole lot taking on this project. Someone in the NextDoor community found me. She tried to find a good Detailer in Palm Springs. Not sure what happened but the one she found was from another city and he never even replied. She found my post so it begins.

Started with the interior (this was a week or so ago, I`m working on the outside)

Vacuum and shampoo. This was before I upgraded to a ridgid. This is my clients vac and my house shampooer

The interior cleaning took two days. She decorated the interior while my supplies came in

Gas tank was removed, all the junk was removed and benches and a table put in. She decorated the interior. I`ll get more pics later as she`s still working in it.

First thing on that exterior. The film on the glass had to go. Glasss cleaner, claying and IPA did nothing, so m105, maroon pad and HF tool it was.

What a difference.

My client had this. How convenient. You can be up on the ladder and your polisher won`t unplug itself. She also has a roll up extension cord, so I don`t have to unwind mine all the time.

Now to a couple days ago, I received the Rupes in the mail, the pads, and Poorboys aluminum polish. Gave it a test spot near the front

Impressive results. Buff and shine Uro Tech, PB aluminum polish, and the Rupes

Then a test spot where there`s lots of dead clear coat. Would the polish cut through?

It does, but the process is painfully slow, and the pads get gunked. There MUST be some faster, correct way to do this....

A quick google search later tells me there`s a product called aircraft stripper that turns the clear coat into goo that you scrape off. Oh and its at my local autozone. My client heads off to get it while I pretend to be productive until the product arrives

The little plastic scraper does a great job removing the clear coat.

Looking dam* good bro! When I was still in the aviation industry there was also a spray on paint and clear coat remover that we lived by instead of the brush on...a little late I know and sorry for that. But you just sprayed it on and could rub off with a rag or even just hose it off. Please tell me you made a video of all this???!!!

Yes I did! In fact all pics of me are screen caps from the clips! I do all this alone so I use a tripod. It`s going to be "Art of Detailing Episode 5: An inside Job"

I record with the iPhone, send it to the iPad then edit it. The laptop I have could never edit video. This thing is a pain but it works.
