Thanksgiving Detail, 2009 GMC All Terrain

In an effort to better understand what exactly happens when I apply AIO in multiple work ins, I have a question.

First off, notice I use the phrase, "work in." When I use AIO (on lets say an older car) there's a difference in applyin a layer to a panel and working in a layer in the same panel. Working it into the paint with a damp mf applicator (IMO) "cleanses" the paint (removes oxidation, contaminents, etc.).

By the second work in, what happens to the first layer. If we infact remove the first layer, then why do we do the second layer. But on the other hand there is a definate improvement (I found from 2 work ins one week and 2 more the next week) in the following layers of AIO. Is it just smoothing it more making it look better? or is their layering going on?

The conflict in 1 sentence: AIO looks better when layered, yet the layering is pointless because AIO takes off itself.

Sorta like milder, and milder.

You put down a coat of AIO. This cleand the surface directly when you worked on a freshly preped surface.

Then the AIO layers down an acrylic.

You apply another coat of AIO, this coat has to work to remove the AIO and smooth out the paint, this produces a milder effect of cleaning the paint, and some Klasse AIO "may" remain. This might improve optical reflectivity due to a slight cleaner surface, and/or layering down or more acylic with some taken off.

So an example is, put 10 balls in a bucket (AIO being balls, and car being a bucket), remove 8 balls, then add another 10, remove 8 more balls add 10 more, and so on.

I hope someone understands this as this is my "irrational" approach to the layering of Klasse AIO.

I would think the same acylic coat would be there after each coat and would not layer till SG is used. Some peopld might notice a difference with 2 coats of AIO, but perhaps these are on older cars that need the sprucing up. i doubt on new paint you would notice much difference till you went on to SG.

I like Jason's analogy. Granted AIO strips itself, I will agree that more than one layer looks better. But SG deffinitly makes a differance.

I don't want to get into that abrasives debate again, but I believe most of us can agree on the fact that at least AIO has some cleaning abilities in it. Laters.

Well, this is a truck of my buddies, it's an 09 Sierra All Terrain. Nice truck, but never been waxed and the interior was, well, let's just say it was neglected. Got the truck Wednesday night and returned it today, so I was able to work at my own pace.

Process:
Foam bath with Griots car wash/foamer
Griots Clay Bar
M205 applied with PC 7424, Orange Kompressor Pad
BF Wet Diamond, Red Kompressor Pad
Wheels and door jambs got Zaino AIO
Tires and exterior trim Z16
All rubber seals, Stoner's Trim Shine
Carpet, Resolve High Traffic
Leather, Zaino Cleaner, Zaino Conditioner

After a quick wash

Paint wasn't bad to begin with

Lots of wierd scrapes and stuff

Used the Zaino AIO, which is pretty under rated if you ask me. Anyway....

Thanks for looking!

Hey Zack... the Sierra looks fantastic! Nice work!:D

Did you end up using Z16 on the bed-liner? (expensive!)

You know what, I actually ended up leaving the bed liner alone. It's pretty new, so the color was nice and even and after a deep foaming it was pretty clean, so I just left it. I just couldn't couldn't see where I would make that much difference putting a product on it. It ended up with a nice even, flat black look.

Turned out great Zack.Pretty Color. Are those factory wheels?

It looks like that truck in the commercial Chevrolet is showing on t.v. every 5 minutes :banghead:

Yeah, they are factory rims, 18" I believe. The thing about these GM "chrome" rims is that they are clear coated, so they are easy to care for IF you maintain them. These had NEVER been touched with a hand, never hand washed or waxed. Luckily they didn't have many miles on them so the AIO took almost everything off. They really were nice looking when cleaned up, I have a feeling the owner will be very surprised.

One other thing, I gave this guy a new bottle of Meguires Quick Detailer with two new microfiber rags with a note that simply said that if used after washes, it would help maintain the wax through the winter. Anyone else do this? He sent me his wife's GMC Acadia a couple weeks ago and he gave me a nice tip both times, so I felt this was appropriate. Maybe I just feel like if I'm going to be super anal about my cars, everyone else should too. :cornut:

Awesome work on an awesome truck :thumbup::thumbup:

Those GMC Sierra All Terrains sure are nice, now I just have to convince my uncle to let me detail his.

Great work! The truck looks a thousand times better, you have to love it when chrome rims are transformed from murky to BLING!

How did you like applying BFWD with a red kompressor pad? I have never tried it. Thanks for posting!

I think you probably use a bit more applying it with DA and using the red kompressor, but I really like it. The pad is so soft, it molds to all the panels and really goes on smooth. I can zip around the car in less than 15 minutes with it. Then, I moved on to cleaning the wheels why it cures and why the AIO setup on the wheels, I removed the BFWD, then back to removing the wheels. It works out great, timing-wise that way.

Thanks, you are right, they are very nice trucks. I like the camera on the rearview mirror, that's a nice touch. That two-tone leather is really sharp too. Made me wish I had my Z71 back, until I pulled it into the garage to detail it and you can hardly walk around it. But, at times, I do wish I had my truck back.

Great work on the GMC, first time I had seen one with 2 tone seats and factory chrome rims, BFWD with the Red Kompressor pad is the bomb! .........

Very nice work! The paint has a nice gloss and the metallic ready sparkles. I use ZAIO on mine and clients wheels too.
