Tar on edge of wheel well

zannard

If I only had more time.
So it finally warmed up where I am at and it gave me a chance to do a better clean of the old Honda Element. To my surprise it looks as if I have picked up some tar on my wheel wells. My problem is some of the tar is on the edge of the wheel wells, almost on the side panels. Of course the side panels on my Element are plastic.

What is the best tar removal out there for use on plastic side panels? Or what tar removal product do most of you use?

I have not had very good experience with many of the tar removal products I have used in the past. They never seem to work very well.

Thanks for you help

Paint lacquer thinner will take it off. Do this at the washing stage, rub the area with the thinner, then wash off right way. Then after drying use a good plastic dressing like PB natural finish or along those lines.

Also goo gone might work as well, it all depends on how setup the tar is!

Laquer thinner may damage the plastic.
I have found Mineral Spirits (paint thinner) to do a good job on tar ... I soak a rag, wipe it on ... let it sit for a while and the tar just wipes off ... plus it is cheap.
Whatever you use try a small area first to make sure it doesn't cause problems.

Hmm, I would try making several passes with the tar removal type products, get as much as you can off, and then give clay a shot, if that gets it off be sure to discard the piece of clay after use
