tax refund - what are you going to spend it on?

i was thinking of buying an air compressor as i've been wanting to buy one for quite some time. i plan on using it to blow out pads, filling up the car tires when needed and maybe a small job/task or two around the house. i'm trying to keep it under $200 and plan on getting this one. if anyone can recommend something better within the same price range, i'm all ears...

Look at Harbor Frieght, and get at least a 16 to 18 gallon tank, they are always running them on sale, a good like I mentioned, is usually $160.00.

The one you are looking at is lacking a big enough storage tank, etc, you will find that you will use it for many things and regret buying that little of one. Once you get using it, you'll probably be like most and find that a "nailing" compressor is just for that. Plus it "says" 150psi, but what is the CFM??

There are many brands of air compressors, but would guess that there are less than 10 manufacturers, just that they are "re-branded".

Even though I bought my big Puma 220v twin, 60 gal tank, I kept my HF, as I can throw it in the back of the Beast and take it to Yacht Club to sand blast lower units, etc.

I have had it for over 4 years, it did every thing, including running my blast cabinet, most air tools, just not enough CFM for air grinders, polishers. Never had a problem, when I got it, was $139.00 at one of the parking lot sales.

it looks like the air compressors sold at HF are the central pneumatic in which i've never come across using in any tool or product they have made. ron, i appreciate the information very much!
 
For what its worth. I have an 80 gallon porter cable that runs on 220 after about a year the pump took a crap on me. I was in a jam and couldnt wait on there service call to fix it. I went to harbour frieght and bought a centeal pnuematic pump for like 125 and it has been running great for 2 years now. No complaints at all. Al i would definately shop araound for a larger tank. Pancake compressors run out of air fast. There a waste for real work
 
I read the reviews on the Porter, some talked about relief valve problems, air leaks showing up, which is due to splits developing in the aluminum air tubing down under the cover. Have fixed that on Craftsman, Coleman's, etc.
 
Go for the 1.8 hp that has the most cfm, and while you are there, get two sets of the brass quick couplers/connectors, a quality Goodyear air hose and the hose reel to keep it on.

You'll thank me later.

Next year will be a whole lot worse though, so I guess I shouldn't complain too much now.
 
what's getting me is "age", I have to draw out of IRA's, etc and as you are aware, no matter how old you are, no matter how well you protected the money from high taxes, we still pay, pay, pay.

There with you :( 70 came a few days ago. Now it's going to get ugly.
 
I never get a refund. I play the taxman game as close as I can and would rather pay a bit annually than have the government keep my money in their pocket all year long.



But I will spend my imaginary refund on a set of tires for this seasons track days in the Cayman S. That will suck up $1200 pretty fast.

i got it for $159.99 w/ the printed coupon. i drained the oil inside that came with it and added some fresh oil and turned it on with the valve open for 20 minutes (breaking it in). i thought i got a defective one because the open valve on the bottom of the tank wouldn't screw/close all the way and air was leaking out, but after loosening and screwing it tight for a few minutes the threads wore in a little and it finally closed up all the way. i plan on buying a better rubber hose (goodyear) as you mentioned on my next visit soon, thanks for the help and recommendation!
