System One? Jay Leno

I have found cetain products very resistant to a 50/50 wipedown (like 106ff). However, I will bring some DuPont Prep-Sol to the expo and see if we will let us wipe the surface down with that.

Maybe I'm missing something, but how is this System One any different than other polishes? I mean, he was still using two steps. Wool with the polish, and then the foam side with polish to remove the haze from the wool. It might save you from having a compound and a polish, but I can do the same thing with something like Menzerna SIP. Use it with orange to remove heavy swirls, and then slap on a white pad and use the same polish to get a nice finish.

The difference I see at the reconditioning shop is: we were a exclusive 3M user and that entailed using Extra Cut with a foam pad or wool pad, then taking the car off the lift and power washing the 3M grit off the car. After that, I'd use 3M Dark Glaze or Swirl Remover with a 3M gray pad. Then, if it was black, 3M Ultrafina and the blue pad. Then, take the car off the lift again for a final power wash before applying #26. That method is probably not the most efficient, but it is what I inherited until System One entered the picture. Now, I compound with X3 and wool, flip the pad and polish with X3. I still apply Ultrafina if the car is black because the dealer wants that additional step. So, I'm down to 1 final power wash.

I use Menzerna and really like the Power Gloss + IP + 106ff too. In fact, I used it today on an older BMW M6 (91-92..can't remember which year) that has been re-painted in spots and nothing was working well. Menz came to the rescue and it's finishing out great.

Like lots of folks, we all get a set of routines and process which works best for each of us. In my case, System One fills most of the bills. One thing I've learned in my 64 years is not to knock something that others may use...I'm always in a learning mode.

I got a chance to talk to Tom Horvath the System One inventor with some questions about his product and mentioned this thread on Autopia.

According to Tom, not only are you welcome to wipe down the polished panel with solvent at the Mobile Tech Expo in Clearwater FL this week, but you are also welcome to do the actual buffing prior to wiping it down!!!

I'm not a rep or employee of his company, but that's a pretty good statement to make for anyone that doubts the veracity of the product.

Hope to see some of you in Clearwater!

Do you have any affiliation? You seem to defend it so strong and mention it so much, did you receive a free sample or work out any type of deal whatsoever with this guy? If so it's only fair we know about it.

No Sir...zero affiliation other than an enthusiastic user. Paid retail for the Pro Kit, then ordered a Gallon of X3 polish and a gallon of Wax. If there is a shortcoming with the system it's my limited use of the Edge pad system...I just don't like large pads (prefer the Meguiar's So1o mid-pad size) and don't feel comfortable with a steel adapter in the middle of the pad...but that's just me probably.

Have no fear Toto!

This is a tried and tested system with more than 8 years of proven safe track record in the industry! The adapter is shouldered below the surface of the plate inside the pad and cannot contact the suface being buffed. Please note the picture. Our pads and system are being used by major automotive manufactuerers, body shops, and even boat manufacturers without inncodent. Keep in mind that we also make the pads 6inch and 4inch as well as the 8inch, that fit the same adapter so you don't have to ever change a backing plate to change pad sizes and you always have automatic centering! You can use these pads with total confidence that they are safe, effective, and economic.

I was never uncomfortable with the edge bp system in fear of it coming in contact with the polishing surface, I personally just don't like the pads I have used. Of course they are all 8 inch, black, green, white, and yellow, the cell system just didn't give me the feel lc pads do.

Which of our pads did you work with? We make pads in many types of foam including ones that our competition uses but in our quick connect system. Please veiw all our foam types available on our website under the foam texture chart. Be sure to click all the tabs. I am sure you will see the foam that you prefer.

I don't have a lot of experience with Edge foam, other then the yellow pad is terrible and the blue pad split in half the first time I used it. I know you guys don't make your own foam, but are you saying you use the same exact foam as Lake Country? I really seem to prefer the LC pads over Edge, but again, I have had bad experience with Edge so maybe my views are skewed.

I am not sure which pads they are, I can take pictures of them if you would like so you can tell me, I have several edge pads and the only one I found to work well with me was a 6 or 7 inch yellow pad. most the other foam (that I have) seemto be far too stiff or grabby, maybe you really have to prime these pads much more than others, even my white pad wanted to skip across the paint ime.

Which yellow are you referring to? We make about 5 different yellow foams. Please contact me directly regarding your issues and I am sure we can find out what happened with your pads and what foams you are looking for in our system.

Thanks,
