01bluecls- That's a great point! Turning out everything except your inspection light makes a huge difference :xyxthumbs
YoMike- Autopian Bill D (MIA but still remembered), who has a white Cadillac in show condition, found that, much to his surprise, fluorescents worked incredibly well for spotting marring on white. I haven't been able to test that assertion as I haven't had a white vehicle around lately, but they did seem to work OK back when I did have white cars. Sorta the opposite situation from inspecting silver.
Here's yet another argument for my beloved (or is it hated  :chuckle: ) incandescents:
After playing with my painter's 3M light and telling him how it didn't show the marring...he said something like "I wouldn't worry about it, it doesn't show in sunlight anyhow". I had to explain to him that the only thing that matters to *me* is how it looks *to me* and I look at it in my shop under my lights
Sun is great for holograms, but same ol' broken record: IME it takes numerous lighting sources to cover all the bases.
Not sure where to get the 3M light, he got his from his 3M supplier :nixweiss

even the halogens didn't show everything like the sun outside the next day did!
which is really a waste of your effort to polish in a none good lighted area as the sun reveals everything...
