Sweet Night HDR-esque Shots of my 2011 Ford Fiesta

I'll also add this. When someone is conditioned to things having defects they tend to not complain about those defects. When I have issues with my cars, I complain and get them taken care of. My father didn't find any of the dozen or so issues he had with his Escalade as problems. I certainly did. He never complained.

Some may say that Honda quality is going down. It may be in some areas. I have a 2000 Odyssey and a 2008 Odyssey. Night and day difference between the two as the quality of the 08 makes it seem as though it wasn't built by the same company.

That's one of the reasons that Ford is looking better in some consumers eyes. Honda's quality has gone down in some areas, Toyota has really seen a series of problems, starting in about 1998, and then really becoming noticeable in 2007 with the transmission problems in the Camry and Avalon (they share a transmissions), and the engine sludge situation and the the way hey handled it did them no favors. At the same time, Ford seems to be improving their quality (although no one is perfect, and they better understand that they have to keep improving). Ford's Sync is another area that seems to be helping bring people into the showrooms to at least look at a Ford product.

The other two Detroit automakers, I can't speak to their quality improvements, if they made any (which I assume they made some). I think part of what all automakers are finding out is that as they load these vehicles with features, they make it harder to manufacture, and the more features, the more chances for things to go wrong.

Yeah, after I read it back to myself I realized how ambiguous it was. My '08 turns a year old right about now and we have over 22k miles on it. All trouble free. That wasn't the case with my '00. The new van has DVD entertainment, satellite radio, moonroof, CD changer and mush more in addition to the '00 that just had navigation. The navigation is better to boot!

The nav systems are improving on all of cars and trucks out there. Two years ago, as part of some consulting work I was doing on the side, I test drove a 2007 Lincoln MKX adn a 2007 Saturn Vue, both with a nav system.

This year, I test drove 2009 Ford Flex, a 2009 Lincoln MKS sedan, and a Saturn Outlook - all with nav systems All of them are head and shoulders above the 2007 nav systems. And then Ford's, in the Flex and in the Lincoln, have Sync automatically with them and a years worth of SIRIUS Travel Link, so I'm playing with the voice controls - "Please say a command" _ I tell it Travel Link, I get the prompt again, I say gas prices, and next thing you know, it's downloading the closed stations they have pricing data on. Plus the voice control over the nav system, which to me rocked. And the one's I've seen in the newer Honda's and Toyota's are also dead on accurate, like the newer Ford and GM models.

Does your Honda's nav system have the nice new HUGE screen?

I can't remember if it's 7 or 8 inches. It's big enough though. Touch and voice operation though I've not taken the time to learn the voice controls yet. :o I think backup camera's are one of the best things to happen in recent years!

It's big. And I love back up camera, too. Played with the one in the Lincoln MKS, and I thought - "I have to have this on the next car".

Funny, I thought it was a complete gimmick until I used it the first time. It's saved me a deductible at least once. I want it in everything now.

The CD changer is hidden behind the navi screen that folds down. Did I mention we have an extended warranty to cover all that stuff?? lol

Don't blame you on the extended warranty. I don't care who the manufacturer is, things can and do go wrong, and everything today just costs an arm and a leg to repair. Personally, I wish they'd roll the cost of an extended warranty into the price of the car and just extend the warranty to 100,000 miles to begin with.

It costs an arm and a leg to figure out what's actually wrong! I have the service manuals for this thing and I tell you that you go on for pages and pages trying to diagnose things that go beyond the general stuff. In some cases, I'd just sell it instead of going round and round with those guys trying to figure out what part to put on this week. The audio stuff is at least on a bus system so that helps.
