Suggestions for a B7 Audi A4?

So my brother picked up a 2005.5 Audi A4. The paint is in *ok* shape however it does have swirls and quite a few RIDS.

I have a whole host of pads at my aresenal, including a 3.5" PFW. My only tool is a PC.

My PFW and Optimum Compound didn't really do a whole heck of a lot. I think the PFW is great...I'm thinking the OC may not be aggressive enough, I know how hard Audi clear can be.

Short of buying a Flex, what are some suggestions you all may have? Do you think M105 would be a better choice of polish?

Also - what backing plate do you guys use with the 3.5" PFW? I have a 3.5" LC Backing plate. As you can imagine, it's a close fit. Is there a smaller backing plate is recommended?

I also have a b7 a4, and just recently polished it. Used a PC with a 5.5 orange pad with M015, worked great and the results were awesome... I can't believe what M105 can do with the kevin brown method...

Yeah, M105 works very well on Audi clear. Many other seemingly aggressive products simply *don't* work well on that clear unless you're using a rotary.

With the M105 I wouldn't even expect you to need the PFW except for really deep stuff (and I'd be just a little careful using that pad lest you overdo things, as I did on an Audi last year).

There's a smaller one about 2.75" or so. Forget where I bought mine as I've had it for ages. You should be able to find it though, or else...I hear LC makes the PFWs in 4" as well as the more common 3.5".

But yeah, get the M105, it works very well on Audi clear. I took out a nasty rids on the A8 *by hand* without much trouble. I'd use an orange pad, then follow up with a polishing pad or maybe even a finishing pad. Then switch to the final polish (make sure it's still aggressive enough for that Audi clear though).

I just finished polishing my A4 with the M105/M205 combo using the KBM and I am very happy with the results. I had previously tried SIP and PBW SSR2.5 and neither of them gave me the results I wanted. I also only have a PC, so the 105/205 combo seemed like it would be worth a try, and I was amazed at how well it worked.

I used 105 on a yellow 5.5 LC CCS pad, and 205 on a white 5.5 LC CCS. I followed up with PBW black hole glaze (the car is black) and pinnacle liquid souveran.

I bought the car new in August '07 and for the first year or so I just washed it at the local car wash. I finally saw the light towards the end of last year when I discovered Autopia, but at that stage the car was covered in swirls and RIDS. After trying SIP and SSR2.5 with poor results I didn't think I'd ever get the RIDS out, but 105/205 with the KBM worked really well.

Thanks for the information everyone!

I have a small backing plate that is used for rotaries + DA adapter. I just never liked using it as it's very inflexible.

Ok, I'm going to grab some M105 AND M205 just to see how the combo works. I also have a 2008 VW R32 where I haven't been able to do too much with Optimum Compound.

I'm a big fan of 4" pads. I also have a ton of 5.5" pads. I'm thinking 4" orange pad + M105 will be my first go. Should I stick with 4" or should i try the 5.5" pads first?

I have a 5" backing plate so the 5.5" pads worked pretty good. Admittedly, I probably could have used some 4" pads for the tighter spots but I just went with what I had. I'm not sure how well the 5.5" pads will work with the 3.5" backing plate. It seems like there would be a lot of pad around the edges that wouldn't have any pressure on it.

I'm no expert though, so maybe someone else could advise.

barrym- I'd stick with the larger plate for your 5.5" pads. Just switch the backing plates when changing between the 5.5" and 4" pads.

Glad to hear the M105/M205 combo worked so well for you.
