Strange "ghosting" on new, Zaino'd paint...explanation inside

I picked up a new VW GTI this summer. Black paint w/a high metallic clearcoat...it's much more forgiving than pure black, thankfully.

I've Zaino'd the heck out of it. Z2 and Z5 w/the ZFX activator. Buffed off w/MFT and Z6, finishing buff after that w/a plush MFT.

I've noticed that after a wash, be it touchless to chase off dust, or a full-on bucket wash w/a mitt...when I'm waterblading, I can see the "ghosts" of waterspots, bug impacts, etc.

It's momentary. It's just after the blade passes. After the finish dries, these ghosts are not visible. The finish has been tough to get to where it is now, but it's blessedly glassy now.

Friday-day, I cleaned her up and layed down another coat of Zaino Z2 for the heck of it. Friday nite, I had to park it outside for a while and the temps are dropping fast these days.

When I pulled back into the garage, I had a little bit of condensation forming on the roof/hood and the condensation was "formed" like the Zaino application I just did. Once it dried, it was gone, but it was just interesting.

Thoughts??

Most likely etching in the Zaino protectant layer(s). Next time try a coat of Z5 and see if these "ghost" are eliminated.

Thank goodness the protectant and not your paint is etched.

You may also have a known problem with the NEW Z5 in which it will streak a bit. This happens after you start to remove the Z5 and notice it.

The best way to resolve streaks in Z5 is mix up 1/2 cap of Z7 wash with 12oz of distilled water in a spray bottle. Spray the effected area and wipe off. No more streak! Then, continue as normal.

When I used Zaino I used to always get those:confused:. Whenever I washed the car I always found waterspots like you described. They never seemed to go away unless I clayed.

Deanski - interesting I must try it.

However, I have a friend who has detailed his entire car with z5 and has streaking. I recommended that he put it on too thick, and that was not the case. Then I recommended that he put too much z6 on, and that was not the case.

So your suggestion of z7 wash with h20 may do the trick ?

Yes, use Z7: 1/2 cap to 12oz distilled water in a spray bottle.

DO NOT USE Z6 FOR STREAKS! All you'll do is move Z5 around.

As long as it was applied VERY THIN, then yes, it can streak a bit. It did in my case as well, so the Z7 spray resolved it.

What am I doing wrong? The new Z5 ( with and without ZFX) has never streaked on me and my Zaino'd vehicle is non-metallic black. :nixweiss

I detail indoors and never drive a freshly Zaino'd car. Could it be the streaking disappears on it own if allow to sit inside overnight? Maybe next time I use Z5 I will pull it outside and check for this issue.

Is it possible for Z5 with layers of Z2 over it to streak like this?

I'm guessing yes, since Zaino told me you can interchange 5/2, which I've done to go after light swirls.

Because when I use Z6, I get streaks.

Hi guys. Newby to Autopia here. I now have 52 layers of Zaino (Z-2 & Z-5) and I too do most of my detailing inside a garage. I have a Brickyard 350Z and have not had the streaking problem with the new Z-5 at all.
