Still skeptical about ONR?

This is just a wash, but I thought it was worth posting...

Our Mazda3 has seen better days. It was awfully dirty from all the nasty weather we've had lately. I decided to not wash it sooner because I wanted to give ONR a real test :) So, for those of you that are still skeptical and haven't purchased ONR yet, you're missing out.

Please excuse the gash in the passenger rear door. That'll get attention in the spring. By the way, this car hasn't been fully detailed since last October. It'll get a full detail once the weather gets a little better.

Process:

2 gallons of water mixed with 1oz. of ONR for the wheels.

3 gallons of water mixed with 1.5oz. of ONR for the rest of the exterior. Normally, I would only use 2 gallons of water and 1oz. of ONR but since it was so dirty I wanted to make sure I had enough solution.

Man that looks better! I'm gonna have to toughen up, you guys farther north talk about waiting for a 20 degree day to wash and I'm in TN using ONR at 40-50 in my garage. I must really be spoiled. I see that snow on the ground and think...hmmm I'd be broke if I detailed around there cause I wouldn't want to get out in it. Hats off fellas

ONR seems to get awesome reviews but just for giggles I tried a mix of regular megs car wash with about 4 gallons of water on my dads beater van and it still came out looking fine. THe microfiber I used to dry the panel came out dirt free. Id love to try some ONR just to see what all the fuss is about but what does this do that a normal high car wash mix cant do? That mazda looks great though!

sorry man no pics this time since I was just testing things out. Next time I will make sure to post some pics. But no I did not notice any smearing or streaking.

Ok, here some before/after pics of my work truck. I did it this afternoon. I had already cleaned the wheels & tires on the before pics & the trailer was already clean as well.

Still waiting on the video (ONR demo) to upload...

Thanks Pat, appreciate it!!! Yes, that's the shop. It's a 4-car garage but one of the bays has it's own door and is walled off from the rest with one access door on the inside. It was already setup for detailing since someone else worked out of it a few years ago. Apparently, he got so busy from working there (wasn't mobile) he had to move to a bigger location. He's actually about 3-4 miles away now. I've not talked to him though.

Obviously, I'm mobile but I was lucky enough to find this place to work out of through the winter for very cheap. It's about a mile away from my house and at one of the main intersections in our town. Lots of slow traffic rolling by! Since I can't be mobile with the shop there in the winter, I offer my customers pick-up & delivery w/in 10 miles.

The video is taking forever to upload. It's almost 200MB. Even though I'm on cable, I didn't think it'd take this long. :(

I too like ONR but don't feel its the very best when compared to DP 4-1 (haven't used Poorboy's Spray and Wipe). Believe the results are nearly identical although there may be a slight cost difference due to the prescribed amount in 2 gallons of water. I think the 4-1 smells better though.

what do you like about the DP 4-1 that makes it the best?

besides the smell

Not saying 4-1 is the best. I think the two are nearly identical in performance. Was just commenting that ONR gets a lot of play on forums and having used both just don't see a much of a difference (outside the scent) IMHO.

Both can be used as a QD, clay lubricant, rinseless wash and water softener. Neither are as slick QD-wise as a DG 521 or other dedicated QD.

so you are saying they "are nearly identical in performance"

and ONR is cheaper(correct?)

So why would you pick 4-1 again?

I've got a gallon of 4-n-1 as well and it does work well, but there are 3 reasons why I prefer ONR:

1) 4-n-1 requires twice as much solution as ONR for washing. 4-n-1 calls for 2oz. per 2 gallons of water. ONR calls for 1oz. per 2 gallons of water. 1oz. may not seem like a lot, but when it's something you use a lot of, 50% is a lot!

2) Optimum as a company is eco-friendly. Part of my sales pitch is that all of my products are eco-friendly. I believe in what Optimum stands for and all of their products. They also tend to think outside of the box (ie - ONR, OCW, zero dusting polishes, etc.)

3) I prefer the smell over 4-n-1

Obviously, a lot of it comes down to personal preference since both products are similar and do both produce good results.

Well, given the fact that ONR is $4 more per gallon but yields 50% more when mixed as directed, I could see the attraction economically. Again, not saying one's performance is better than the other. Was merely asking the question why ONR gets so much publicity. Like I said, I've used and like both.;)

thanks for the info

but for me (and I think most people)

if the 4-1 was 1/2 of the price it would get a lot more play around here

or if if was better in some way I could see it also
