started NXT duerability comparison

I decided to do a test cokmparing NXT to Zaino and Collinitie 476. The car is my winter beater 91 Civic Si. THe car has original paint that has decent gloss and isnt clearcoated. Well it was almost 30* today (heat wave!) so I took the car to the car wash, then went over the hood by hand with Megs #9 and "prepsol". I applied NXT to the center of the hood, Collinite on the right and Zaino on the left. I figure this car will be a good test because it isnt babied, sits out 24x7 and sits with dirt and road salt on it at times. Sorry no pics tonight as It was getting dark. Ill report back with pics weekly.



some initial impressions:



Collintie 476- Harder to apply / remove (but not to bad), slickest surface of the 3, made the red paint the "brightest"



Zaino- A little bit harder to apply/remove then NXT, clearer reflections then the other 2, draker then collinite



NXT- wipe on/ wipe off, darkest of the 3, most reflective of the 3
 
After work tonight I plan to QD it and hose it down. Hopefully I can get a pic of the beading from day 1 for a comparison.
 
Thanks for the comparison! I'm expecting delivery of NXT tomorrow, and I will post some pics of the results on an indigo blue jeep probably on Sunday.

I can't stand it anymore!! I'm in New England..home of the crap weather ..I brought the black Benz to work today. I'm pulling her into a wash bay after work..wash..dry..DACP with the PC..then NXT......MWAHHAHHA. Can't wait to get started.
 
Well I had to work until 9pm last night, so I didnt get to test. However, we had freezing rain last night and a touch of snow (shocker...). When I looked at the hood this am, covered in ice, the 3 sections looked different.



NXT- The ice was pretty "beaded" and there were actually a few spots (small) that were ice free



Zaino- Seemed the worst, ice was the thickest and smoothest on this section.



Collinite 476- about middle of the 3, some ice "beading" and less overall ice buildup then the Zaino side.
 
Well its been 2 weeks now, and today was the first time the old Honda got washed. It has been sitting outside 24/7 through rain, snow, salt and dirt. I took it through the automatic wash today (hey its like 35*), brought it home, wiped the hood with a damp towel and here is what it looks like

I then rinsed the hood with a bucket of clean water, this the result after about 10 seconds.

On a side note, I decided to use the NXT spray wax on the car to see how it works (except the hood). The car had a coat of Collinte IW back in November and thats it. I must say I am impressed! It brought a wet, slick shine on the 13yo, semi-neglected (by Autopian standards) paint. As a consumer level product, I would have to rate this as excellent from first impressions.

Could you change those pics to jpgs instead of bmps? That is going to take forever to download for those of us on dial up.
 
Well the car has hit the 5 weeks mark, sorry no pics. I washed it last night with NXT wash. What I noticed kinda surpirsed me. The Z side was barely beading and the water seemed to sit on the hood, not sheet off. The NXT portion still had about 45% beading left and the remaining water seemed to sheet off OK, but not like when it was fresh. The collonite 476 side still had about 80% beading left and water just rolled off.



As far as appearance I dont really notice any difference now, they all look about the same. I would say the collonite feels the slickest with the NXT and Z feeling about the same as each other.



I applied the wolfgang to the side of the car last night and you can definitely see a color and depth difference between it and the previously treated panels. Wolfgang has a nice deep, fairly wet looking surface.
 
I'm glad you did this test, and opinions keep comming.....



Isn't that nice we don't ALL have the same opinions? So that we can share something with each others? ;)



Isn't it great to have so many GREAT products in hand to use whenever we feel like using one or the other?

The Zaino zealots are not going to like that comment. :)

I always found Z beaded the longest, especially up against NXT. NXT lost most of its slickness and beading after one wash. After the second it was all gone. Two coats of Zaino stays slick after multiple washes, and still beads.

Waxes do always seem to bead the longest, but most waxes don't offer a lot of UV protection, and that is why I stick to sealants.

The lack of beading could be due to the soap. Z-7 soap is great stuff and maybe it helps Zaino bead better longer.
 
Well, if the Z is so picky that the soap will make or break the "protection" of it, then I consider that a negative to the product. Dont get me wrong I have used Z in the past and been pleased with the results, but I think there are many products the rival the look and protection but offer more "usability". But if you think that there will be adifference in the interest of a fair test I will use the Z6 car soap at next was (hopefully today). I do have to say that I really do like the Z6 soap as one of my favorite car washes.

NXT wash is not adversely affecting the "protection" of the Z2 or 5. Any good car shampoo offers great sheeting action which minimizes water spotting and helps make drying quicker and easier. Zaino sealants can certainly hold up to even the more aggressive car shampoo.



And I'd love to know the many products that rival Zaino in durability.

I love that Collinite! Especially the IW. I use it religously.



Wish you put the IW on the hood too for a test run along with the 476s.
 
Well I "lost" my bottle of IW, so I couldnt use it for the test. Great product, a bit easier to work with then 476. But 476 still isnt that bad, even in cold weather.



As far as Zaino goes I would have to say that Klasse (from what I hear) and IW (my wifes car was still beading water and IW was applied back in October) and 476 (from experience) have/will hold up as long as the Z. We are talking single application, NOT multiple coats. I applied all 3 products outside on a day that was maybe 30*. I let all "cure" according to their directions. MAybe applying Z in the cold affected its bonding? But it didnt seem to affect the NXT and 476.
