Thankfully, my area isn't affected, but here is an interesting link I came across: EO Natural Hazards: Fires in Southern California

Everything around me is covered in ash this morning. Completely different from yesterday.:(

Remember when I called you yesterday? Now its your turn.........Great pic.

Im between the upper pic'd fires and the coast....smoky as hell here........

Sorry to hear that Brian... Just glad they are all ok.

BTW, I would the smoke would go inland because of the ocean wind and just I would think that's what it'd do.

Dominant high pressure over the great basin (Utah/Colorado area) drives winds in a clockwise motion. Low pressure, conversely spins counterclockwise.

Picture a clock, So cal is at about 7. Winds are coming from the 1 o'clock to the 7 o'clock position driving the winds "offshore".

Great surfing weather though if theres a swell.

hopefully, nobody gets hurt seriously in these fires. i wish these winds would stop, i rather have it rain...

You all take care of yourself's and your families too. That picture of the smoke from Patrick reminds me of the oil rigs that were on fire from the 91 Gulf war, couldn't see 5 feet in front of myself. Take care and be safe.......... and Brian glad that your grandmother and her dogs are ok!

My grandmother lost her home, she and her dogs are ok though, and maybe on their way to Tampa.

Sorry to hear that as well!

The news is now saying that the one the fires was set by an arsonist!

... sure made for an interesting afternoon yesterday. Started to freak a little when they began evacuating neighborhoods about 1 mile north of me this morning. Sure didn't get much accomplished at work today, that's for sure.

this is was what it looked like around 5 PM yesterday from my driveway...

8 more hours of no power today, finally went on as Im posting here. I heard the "Magic" fire is coming west, to Simi Valley, guess whats next door, me. I have really had enough smoke as of late, the burning throat, sore eyes and nasal passages, forget it! My right ear is so clogged up im missing about 75% of my hearing as a results of sinus issues or wax accumulation. Im not looking for sympathy, im just miserable!! And David is in San Diego, where I heard they evacuated 250,000 people?!

Thousand Oaks is surrounded by hills, all the way to the beach again! Man oh man we need a break. They say the winds are to die down in about 18 more hours so hopefully another week of smoke and were done for the season! Good luck to all close by the fires and better luck if your in the current path of one of these monsters...........Poor Arrowhead lost quite a few homes today, again.

Patrick, I though Arrowhead and Big Bear would all burn up when all the Bark Beetle affected trees were burning. I hope the wind dies down soon!

Im sitting here in my dining room with the window open, and its still howling. Then my weather alert goes off, im afraid to even open it!

Arrowhead has certainly had a rough go this last few years...........And Diego.

Stay safe Patrick! You should have seen me when Griffith Park was up in flames!

I remember that one just a couple/few months ago wasnt it?

Yup, and it came WAY too close for comfort! Myself and a few neighbors had our vehicles packed with stuff, in case we had to evacuate.

Last night this time, we had 5% humidity. We are cuurently back up to a respectable, and definetly more comfortable, 29%. No winds as we speak, at least where i am.

Real bad down David B's way though. Over 1000 homes lost, nearly 1 million people displaced.
