Cherry-picking statistics is not going to help your case. Unemployment statistics, for example, do not include underemployment.
Now, my experience may not be the norm but many of the workers my friends or I have known from their experience in the US, are some of the worst. One story I distinctly remember was that of my friend. He ran a house framing business near Detroit. His best employee flat refused to get up on top of the roof to complete framing. His best employee.
As well, in my "welfare nation" I know not of a single person on social assistance. I work hard to make sure that I will never need it, but it is good to know it is there. The US, on the other hand, is different. I had a girlfriend in Oregon, Salem to be precise. Her family lived on social assistance. No one but my ex-gf worked, and she only worked about 10-20 hours per week. The entire family of 3 (her, her mom, and her mom's bf) were surviving on food stamps. Yet, they had no impetus to work. Why is that? I'm not even sure...
By the way, my current girlfriend is at a very well-known University here and studying medicine for her undergraduate degree. I can tell you, there will be more than enough candidates to enter Medical school. There is no shortage of people entering medical studies. If anything, people should be following other pursuits because the road is so difficult. Most will end up being Nurses or otherwise.
If I had enough time, I would respond to all of your points but I am late for my bus.
