So which polish should I get!

I just got my PC 7336 in the mail and I want to get rid of hideous swirls on my car and I need help selecting a polish/swirl remover.

Here is what I am thinking about, which would be the best??

Meg's #80, 82, or 83

Poorboy's SSR 1 or 2

Pinnacle XMT 1 or 2

Which do you guys think will be the best for removing swirls/minor imperfections??

Do you already have these products or are you ordering some? I would actually recommend the Optimum line over those. You will get the same results if not better plus you won't have any dusting.

If you want Meg's get #83 and #80 (you'll want to follow-up 83 with 80).

If you want Poorboy's get SSR 2.5 and 1 (you'll want to follow-up 2.5 with 1).

Sorry, I've never used XMT.

And like Juztang and DieselMDX mentioned, if you haven't bought anything yet, consider the Optimum line of polishes.

Of those, if you have pretty bad swirls, I'd make sure you at least have the Meg's 83. I'm not sure the others would have enough cut to tackle bad swirls.

As others have stated, Optimum makes some great polishes with very long work times and no dusting.

Optimum products are really good. Its hard to find any negative posts on their products. Do a search on Optimum, but you better get a Snickers cuz you wont be going anywhere for a while.

Optimum Polish

Is that the polish I am looking for from optimum, also does it need a glaze or anything. I want a one step polish that won't take away much clear.

optimum polish with a white pad will not take very little CC off and it will finish without ANY haze or swirls.

for a glaze there are alot to choose from but you cant go wrong with megs

If you are dealing with bad swirls you will have to use the Compound first and then probably finish off with the Polish. Sometimes the Compound finishes out nicely where I don't have to use the Polish. Also the new Poli Seal is great for minor swirls. It is a polish and sealant all in one.

If you are beginner don't go for #83 as many on MO have reported it is not easy to achieve results with.

Is this the same stuff I read people mixing it up with OC, or OP?

Thx-Goose :usa

No, that's Hi-Temp Extreme Cut Leveler that's mixed with OP. HTHC is a level down from HTEC and from the threads I've read is the most aggressive HT product you can use straight with a PC without diluting with another polish.

Another thought on this is to work the PC slowly when polishing and if that doesn't work, go with 4" pads. Accumulator recommends those for serious defect removal when the bigger pads don't work. I'm a weekend-warrior autopian so you might want to get more polish suggestions from the pros here.

My next order will probably be for some Optimum products. I like #80, but I'm pretty fed up with the rediculous amount of dusting I get from #83.

#80 doesn't dust near as bad as #83, and the only time I get dusting with #83 is if I'm not cleaning my pad after each panel.

05Corolla is interested in taking out swirls and minor imperfections yet people keep talking about medium to heavy stuff like #83 or even heavy cut leveler with 4" pads.

I would just get #80 and be done with it. It is efficient enough to take swirls and minor imperfections out yet safe enough that Mike Phillips has newbs use it in his Saturday classes.

I would put my vote in for Poorboys. I usually use SSR 2.5 if there are moderate swirls but SSR1 does a decent job by itself and finishes very nice.

I'm not trying to argue with you, but he did say he wants to get rid of "hideous swirls". In my experience Meg's #83 and SSR2.5 aren't all that terribly aggressive unless you use them with a cutting pad. The point is, if he's going to order some polish to remove imperfections, he might as well get one for lighter defects and one for the more serious defects if needed.

I like #80, but it is pretty limited on what it is able to remove..... depending on the paint/defects. Since we don't know how bad those "hideous swirls" are, I just think he'd be wise to have a more aggressive polish on hand if needed. It doesn't really matter if he chooses Meg's, Poorboy's, OPT, Menzerna, or XMT...... but if he's going to be ordering this stuff he might as well get what he might need, be that now or sometime in the future.

But you do bring up a very valid point that he should start out with a less aggressive polish/pad combo and then move up only if it's needed. I think most (or some) of us took for granted that "hideous swirls" would require something with more bite than #80, but w/o seeing them that determination is hard to make.... especially since we don't know how hard the clear is on his car.

While #83 isn’t my favorite polish, I have never found it difficult to work with, other than it dusts a bit more than I like sometimes. But I have read where a lot of people have problems with it….. guess I just lucked out with the technique I use with it.
