So the Lexus guys tell me the best mod for my car is...

The car won't be my daily driver. I'll be using the '01 TJ to commute back and forth to school and work.



I want something that's fun to drive. I'd like to look into occaisional auto-X courses. One thing I won't compromise for performance is the car's comfort. I'm keeping every piece of the interior, heated seats, leather, carpet and all. I'd like to stick with the stock tranny, but upgrading certain components as needed isn't out of the question. I don't think I'll have to worry about making enough power to warrant those upgrades, though.



I doubt I'll ever drag it. At lest not any time in the near future. I know it's not going to give me a number I'll like anyway ;)



Her job is to sit under a cover and look pretty during the weekday. Weekends and evenings, she's mine.



Took some new pics of the car today. I still have yet to get the rotary on it, so only minor polishing work with the PC.

I really don't like the tires. The front and rears don't match. We think someone replaced the worn rear tires with a pair of readily availiable tires of the same size. I don't even like the way either of them look. The wheels have seen better days, as well.



I guess what I'm trying to say is, I need some rubbers and a rim job.
 
iForged Aeros and new tires would look awesome. :)



Some of the tire web sites allow you to see what wheel/tire combos look like on a Lexus SportCoupe. I think TireRack may do that or maybe Butler Tire.
 
For power, you can put a turbo on it. There are also superchargers - at least you could make one fit - I know there is one for the IS 300 that has the same engine.
 
Ehh, he has the V8 coupe not the I6. I *think* I remember that there was a group of guys with turbo Lexus V8's. I don't remember where though.

There was a group of guys down in Austrailia that were working on a super charger kit. That's kind of fizzled out, though, AFAIK.



Hehe, if I had the same motor as the IS300/Supra, I'd have to ask which of the plethora of mods was best, and not just ask what's even availiable.
 
GA - I think the colour (yes the English spelling) looks great on your SC. Who wants to have the same as everyone else anyways? Too bad about the wheels, they are a nice looking design. I'm sure you'll find ones you like.



The car is looking good, I've always liked the SC's, they still look current. Lexus made a clean looking design, the interior is very impressive and ahead of it's time. I wouldn't worry about going crazy on mods, do the exhaust and enjoy it. Looks like you've been detailing under the hood too hmm?

Well, tomorrow I'm picking up a SC300 and doing the TT 2nd gen Supra swap... should be pretty fast! Everyone in the chats weekly knows I've been after an mr2... but I decided that for around the same price I can have something a bit more luxurious, and unique. (looking at modded mr2s in the 9-11k price range, and the lexus should cost 9k after the swap)

I can absolutely guarantee that if you really learn how to drive you'll be able to out-drive/autoX/etc. people in far "faster" cars. People who've never done a school (or six ;) ) just can't imagine. My wife was passing Z-28s and sportscars at Mid-Ohio in a stock S-class Benz on street tires. Soup up the driver first.



Heh heh, remember all the trouble you had with the aftermarket alarm system? There is no way I'd ever mess around with souping up that Lexus.



Wheels/tires (get four of the right ones on there), suspension, and maybe exhaust/intake (see how your car's computer likes such changes...) are as far as I'd ever go with that one. Trying to change that cars personality sounds like a bad idea, it doesn't want to be a Supra ;)
 
I'll definitely be doing a few specialty driving schools.



Heh, I was driving the Jeep today on I-64 with dad, and the thing kept getting sidetracked by the wind, and had no acceleration at all. Floored, the RPM's hardly changed. New gears are a must. This really gives me an appreciation for the Lexus' mildly hard acceleration and better-than-a-brick dynamics.



I think suspension, whels/tires, then basic intake/exhaust/headers will be just fine. If you go into the SC300/Sc400 forums at ClubLexus.com, there's a thread called something like "Updated pics of my '97 black on black 6-speed" by the user called Street King. These pics really made me want to look into a 97+ bumpers/skirt conversion. I like my wing better, but the '97+ lower panels look so much more 'up to date' than my car with no skirts. Maybe if I keep the car out of college and I have another beater, I'll look into some more in-depth mods.



BTW, I have a full arm cast on, so any typos are to be excused :D

Eh, what can I say? :D The engine compartment is awefully crowded and full of plastic. I'd like to see if there's a better way to have all the wires and things organized. I'd also like to get justa little bit of polishing done on the very scarce exposed metal.



I showed my mom the i-Forged wheels. I had especially liked the Aeros and the Evolutions. She thought I was crazy for wanting to put wheels with rivets on a Lexus.
 
Autocrossing an automatic is never fun. :(



But you can get some lightweight wheels to give you some usable power. And some good tires.



But really, if you are planning on autocrossing don't make the mistake of thinking you have to modify your car before starting out. It's the biggest mistake people make.

Of course not. Like Accumulator said, Auto-X is all in the driver. That's why we often see people in Civics and Miatas lapping 911's and M3's.



A while back, there was a guy who bought an SC400 brand new. Added I think a set of tie rods, and left everything stock, down to the tires. He ended up winning some regional championship. :cool:



As for the slushbox... eh. I'll have to suck it up and get used to the fact that Lexus made a mistake by not offering a 6-speed with the 4.0.

I've been searching the forums for the past days since I"ve been obsessed with buying that SC... that guy's SC is my second favorite on the site, and his collection of cars is amazing. The only SC I like better is the "CleanSC" guy's... but he put 20k into it and didn't even swap the engine.

Definitely like his too, but I'm not a fan of body kits. I like Street King's because it's the factory body.



Having said that, I'm looking for the lower chin/lip spoiler off of the 92-94 SC400.
