So many questions...

So, I just bought a PC but have waited on buying pads because I'm not sure what I'm going to need. My first inclination was to just get the PC Accessory Bundle from CMA but wonder if I really need all the pads for my 2 year old car. Do I need a lambswool pad? I want to take care of swirls, but don't have heavy oxidation to worry about. What use are the terry cloth bonnets if I just want to apply SMR, AIO, and SG? Should I just buy the backing plate, a few white polishing/waxing pads and a grey pad for detail?

Finally, on a tangent, I've heard a lot of people recommend PPCL as a step after claying. But, if I'm already using AIO to clean/prep the surface, what good is PPCL going to do that a simple rinse and AIO application wouldn't otherwise accomplish. Let's face it, I'm trying to budget a little here so I'm trying to decide between wants and needs.

Thanks for your input,

Kory

I'm with you on the kit... I bought the full kit, but never use the lambswool, terry or MF bonnets. My recommendation would be one yellow, two white and two grey pads along with the velcro backing plate.

BTW, I loooove my PC. Don't know how I ever lived without it.

:up

I bought the pad kit a while back. I have never used the wool pad and I don’t like the bonnets. The gray pad works for applying stuff like Klasse SG but I do it bad hand anyways. I used the yellow pad once on a beater. Basically I could have gotten away with the backing pad and two white pads. $23.00 cheaper & leaves more money for other stuff.

There's a recent thread where PCCL vs. AIO is debated......

Good luck,

SJS

I will be doing cars with heavy oxidation and scatches and swrils..so the I like that package.....I didn't know at the time I would be doing this, but I was thinking ahead...so if you plan on helping others it maybe a good idea to put on the shelf...

Just got my pad kit from CMA. All I have to say is... Damn those cotton terry things are some of the roughest things I have ever felt!!! I think I could use those to colorsand and just skip the sandpaper.

Still have to go pick up the PC. Hope Lowes has one in stock.

I've been using a rotary with big 8" pads and these little bitty pads for the PC are just so cute!

haha. I know what you mean, don't ever let those things near your paint.

Why do they even include those? They should just take those out and lower the cost of the kit some...

I wonder how they would work for buffing Rain-X off windows?

I really don't know why they are in there, they are really to coarse to use for much of anything. If you ever used those on your paint you would certianly have some major swirls. You might be able to use them on glass, but I am not sure. For agressive polishing on glass I usually use a blended wool cutting pad. My terry bonnets have been sitting in the box ever since I got them, I have not used them a single time.

I used the terry pads to apply Klasse AIO onto some wheels.

Way to course to use on paint.

I have used the wool pad with the PC, pretty good, didn't cause any swirls. I'll use this pad for restoring older cars.

yhea, but you aren't really polishing the glass with Rain-X, more of buffing it. Everyone complains about how hard Rain-X to buff off and I agree, it is too hard. When I apply Rain-X I let it haze and then wash the car and scrub the windows well. Works great! I haven't had a problem with hazing since I started to apply Rain-X this way.

Just wondering if a buffer might help to get the Rain-X off. Probably will, don't think they'll scratch glass.

I agree Jason. It's not bad, and fairly easy to use as far as wool pads are concerned. It's Lambswool though, so it's intended for more of "fine" polish rather than a real cutting wool.

yhea, I saw the lambswool pad and was like. Wow, that is wool? Looks like the polishing pad for my rotary. The wool pad I have for my rotary buffer is very dense coarse wool, not fine and soft like the wool pad from CMA for the PC.

Sigh. I'm so bummed...feels like an old friend just passed away. So many questions in my mind...

Reminds me of when the local donut shop closed - the every day patrons went to parts unknown - it was sad. Where will everyone go?

I am with ya Gary.
It really is very sad. PAC was always my 1st choice for my supplies and TID is my HOME for detailing forums. We all support other detailing forums, but this one has always been my favorite. So many great people here. I have made so many good friends here, and I hate the thought of it all going away.
I hope someone finds a way to keep TID alive, and I would like to wish Angelo, Todd, Jack, and all of the other great people at PAC the best of luck in whatever you do.

TID was a one-of-a-kind forum with valuable information and almost no hostility between the members; a refreshing change from other places. Now what?

Gewb my friend, I am sorry that you are bummed. :( Obviously there is only such much that I am at liberty to discuss (out of both personal and professional courtesy) but I will do my best to answer your questions with out crossing any lines. It is important to know that PAC still values all of our customers and is grateful to them (and will until the last light flickers out on our server).

Will PAC raise from the dead? No. This is the end of PAC/CMA as a company.

Did Jack try to sell the company? I'm not at liberty to discuss.

Could a few members try to purchase the company? I have no idea.

Will TID survive? No. :(

Will the Blackfire Line live on? I hope so. Multiple people and companies to my knowledge have expressed interest in the line, but I am not really privy to any information besides that.

Will Jack allow TID to be archived? I have no idea as Jack has so much on his plate right now I am not sure if this is even a thought of his. I will ask however. Believe me when I say that Jack is passionate about all fronts of detailing and I am sure (given the time and opportunity) he would hate to see the knowledge shared by so many great and knowledgeable people on this forum disappear.

Hello Todd -

Thanks for your reply.

If the company could be purchased let us know - perhaps a group of us would consider a partnership. Same for the Blackfire line of products (I would consider investing).

TID has been a great site and it holds a treasure trove of information. If there is any way this library can be archived for others to host please let me know - I'll do what I can to assist. When will the plug get pulled on TID?

Best of luck to all at PAC.

Regards,
GEWB
