Well, I bought a used black 2000 year car. It had a lot of stone chips on it so I thought I would try the technique on here. After a lot of work it looked much better. I used 2000 grit sandpaper by hand for wet sanding. However, it still did not entirely match. I thought about trying clear coat.
I applied the clear coat and wet sanded again with 2000 grit. Well, it seemed to make a difference. However, there is now a grey spot just above the original chip. It cannot be removed with rubbing compound or SMR. I fear I have sanded through the paint into the primer underneath. So I think I have just fixed one spot but caused another. It is right on a curve so I think the raised area of the car got sanded more due to me using a sanding block.
So, I suppose the only thing I can do now is have the hood repainted. Anyone know how much that typically cost? It's not a real expensive car and it is a daily driver but I just want it to look nice.
Anybody have any recommendations in DFW, TX? Any alternatives? I cannot really "fill" the spot since it is smooth and is not a chip. I could touch-up paint it but I fear if I wet sand it again I will just cause more problems.
