Thanks TL... I actually looked at one of those at Tractor Supply yesterday. It runs about $799, but looks like it's built like a tank!

I didn't reallize Toro made 2-stroke snowblowers. Are they for heavy-duty use?

I run an 8hp, 24" cut Ariens. The machine is AWESOME. It has the electric start but I always pull start it...very typically the first pull will do it. It has no problem ripping through 3 or 4 foot snow banks and it can launch it all the way across my street. I am going on 4 or 5 years with it and all I have done is change the plug and the oil. I would highly recommend it. Again, probably more then you wanted to spend but my dad always told me you get what you pay for.
 
I have a Toro single stage blower with the 2-cycle engine that I might sell. It's been in the garage ever since I took it to the shop for a starting issue. I've not used it since. We live in a house now where the snow does not drift as much, so I just use a shovel when we do get any accumulation.

But if you want one with a warranty, I understand. The Toro units really do work like a champ. I just had to learn a lesson about using fuel stabilizer!! :tongue:
 
I've been using the same 2 cycle, single stage Toro since '92 having changed wear parts like the (mud flap type material) paddles (4th set) and the nylon scraper on the bottom (5th one)... it's been a real back saver.

One feature I really like is the chute direction is set by a handle at the chute's base, not by a crank mechanism. Much quicker to reach down and slap the chute than cranking it ever time I change direction.

I would have hoped by now that with the many forms of communications available that word would have reached most everyone that it has been proven scientifically that WOMEN are better suited for shoveling snow. Have you ever heard of a women suffering from a heart attack from shoveling snow? I read it on the internet so it must be true!
 
Bill, I figured you were looking for something on the smaller side, thats why I suggested the toro 2 stroke. If you want a big dog buy an Ariens. I have a 25 year old Ariens that runs great and still looks great. Yes I do wax it to keep it nice.

Yeah, I've got the small Toro electric for the 4" snows, but I need something for the 6"-12" snows.

I keep reading good things about the Ariens.

I was just looking at the Home Depot website and they have the Ariens Sno-Tek 22 in. 2-stage for $499 free shipping!!!

I'm tempted. By the end of the day, I may be more tempted!

Are the Ariens machines 4-cycle?
