smart (not so common to USA :P )

My parents bought a Smart car about a year ago.

I have driven in it many times. They bought the Convertible model.

One thing you will notice besides the slow acceleration, is the slow shifts from the transmission. It seriously takes like 1.5-2 seconds for the next gear to be electronically shifted into place.

Also, since it is small and relatively tall you will feel the wind gusts more than other cars. Something I am used to since I ride a motorcycle, but my mother was a little nervous taking it on the highway on a windy day.

It surprised me how roomy it feels inside. I am 6'4" and didn't feel that cramped.

I would never buy one. It took me awhile to get over how goofy it looked and actually take it for a spin. :p

The tranny issue was a major flaw. Smart says that it is cured with the new gen model. Another interesting concept; because the the tranny is a 3-speed with two final ratios. 2×3=6.

And yes, it is VERY sensitive to side winds.

I see one here in Phoenix every other day on the way home.. always amazes me. Looks like one of those Kawasaki trike things at first glance..
