smart (not so common to USA :P )

A not common car to USA. It is my brothers car.(He has not a drivers license yet...but he has a car)(He does not drive it, we do :P )

The car is 1 and half month old so I just wash it add some sonax tire shine and a layer of 1z hart glanz and some autoglym bumper care to plastics.

The paint on that 'car' looks great. Definetly unique, and no, we have none of those over here in the U.S.





How safe is that thing? :soscared:

From the front it looks like someone smiling back at you complete with mouth, nose, eyes, and eyebrows :D
 
I live in Greece. It cost me about 14500 euros as it has some extras (like more power 79hp, shifts gears from the steering wheel and stuff like that).



MPG?What do you mean with MPG I did not understand (it may be my English)
 
They will be selling here in the US in January of 2008 at Mercedes dealerships. With a price range ranging from $15-20k. From my reading I heard they get around 60 mpg
 
It has a 700cc turbo engine and it has an average fuel consumption of 4.7 liter per 100 Km.(I am little lazy to make the conversion)
 
We do have those here....in VERY VERY limited supply. There were only two shipped to Pennsylvania a few months back and a local guy bought one for around $30,000. It gets around 72 MPG overall...and if he god forbid ever get into an accident with it he probably would not make it out alive....its BEYOND small!

Well then you guys are getting owned! :D we only pay about 16 ish for them( more for the convertible), but yeah, I don't like them that much. My friend has one with a brabus package, so its a little better, but 3cyl diesel=SLOW!

Word. If you live in a major city it's definitely a great consideration.
 
The thing is with the Smart's safety that it is a strange concept. Not because it is so small, but because it relies heavily on other car's crush structure. Smart call their safety cage as the "Tridion Cell". This superstructure is extremely stiff and tough - as it has to absorb the impact energy into this miniature front overhang. But the car does its job quite good - in fact it is too good. When it encounters an immovable barrier such as walls, trees, the Tridion Cell is simply too stiff to be able to lessen the impact. You must buckle up!

When the Smart impacts into another car, it will mainly use that car's structure and the impact will be significantly softer. The new gen Smart that the US will get, is a bit larger and DC has polished out the minor safety flaws the original had.

One such flaw remains though: bigger cars/trucks will throw it away in an actual crash, causing secondary impact(s), so it is again highly recommended to buckle up.
 
They've been selling these here in Canada for a few years now, you see quite a lot of them on our roads. It's success in Canada is the main reason why I believe it's going to be sold in the States. Not sure how it'll do, but so far Mercedes has been losing money on each sale in Canada despite the numbers being pretty decent.



Hopefully it'll do well enough that they'll finally decide to bring out the ForFour and Fourtwo Roadster to North America :)



Oh, and for those that haven't seen the infamous crash test video of the Smart: YouTube - smart car crash ..you be the judge.
 
Yep, exactly what I am talking about.



But the ForFour is discontinued just as the Coupé and the Roadster. Only the ForTwo will march on...



Good news for the Coupé/Roadster lovers: AC took over the entire production of these models and will manufacture a significantly better looking spinoff, called Ace.

You guys don't have SMART in the U.S? Hrm, I didn't know that! They've been selling them here for years. They have a little 2 seater roadster that is actually pretty cool. :)



Oh, btw, the paint looks great haha, nice work.
