Simple Green.... Any Users??

I use Simple Green as part of my detailing arsenal, and was wondering if anyone else does. I detail on the side for leisure and to make a little extra $$. Its not to expensive by the gallon and it goes a long way diluted, which is how I use it. It works well on rims, wheel wells, engines etc. I feel it works just as good if not better then some of the wheel cleaners out there, and for @ 11.00-- 13.00 dollars a gallon then diluted at various ratios for potency its cheaper. Anyways, any users??

I use simple green to degrease engines, and also to clean up parts around the shop. It's an awesome product and i love the smell as well.

I use it full strenth on wheel wells, inside of rims, engine, and on the garge floor. I get little over a gallon from lowes around 10 dollars. I also love the smell of it

I pre-soak my tires & rims with it before a wash, use it for wheel wells, mud flaps, engine degreasing. Godd stuff some some jobs, but not all.

And I CAN'T STAND the smell:nono

I use SG for engine bay cleaning, carpet stains, fabric stains, stains on wheels, tires, rubber floor mats....



Keep it off the paint and, if you are using it on plastics in the engine bay, make sure it is diluted at least 50/50 with water.

What I like better then Simple Green is "D-Limonene" common name is orange cleaner or Citric

cleaner ect ect just make sure that it says in the Ingredients D-Limonene. When you buy a product that says orange cleaner or Citric cleaner you don't know what you are getting, read the Ingredients first

D-Limonene removes tar, grease, oil, ink, gum, (That's right gum) glue, price tag and gum residue, decals, permanent felt marker, tar, tree sap, blood stains, candle and crayon wax, scuff marks. use it to clean Carpet & upholstery, eliminates the strongest odors also acts as a good aluminum & rubber brightener cleaner.

D-Limonene is alkaline so it will dull glossy paint like house paint

I like Simple Green, although I use pro-line gallon stuff in the shop, off the shelf, Simple Green does a great job on almost any surface at a very good price.

I use Simple Green but as with any solvent, I'm careful where and how I use it. It will harm non-coated aluminum if allowed to stand.



Here's their FAQ...



Simple Green products have been successfully and safely used on aircraft, automotive, industrial and consumer aluminum items for over 20 years. However, caution and common sense must be used: Aluminum is a soft metal that easily corrodes with unprotected exposure to water. The aqueous-base and alkalinity of Simple Green or Crystal Simple Green can accelerate the corrosion process. Therefore, contact times of All-Purpose Simple Green and Crystal Simple Green with unprotected or unpainted aluminum surfaces should be kept as brief as the job will allow - never for more than 10 minutes. Large cleaning jobs should be conducted in smaller-area stages to achieve lower contact time. Rinsing after cleaning should always be extremely thorough - paying special attention to flush out cracks and crevices to remove all Simple Green/Crystal Simple Green residues. Unfinished, uncoated or unpainted aluminum cleaned with Simple Green products should receive some sort of protectant after cleaning to prevent oxidation.

Huh. That explains why my cam cover looks ugly after I cleaned my enginge bay with Simple Green. Guess I won't do that any more.



I like(d?) Simple Green because it has so many different uses, relatively cheap, and I can find it just about anywhere. Guess I need to track down a new all purpose cleaner. Would one of those Citrus d-Limonene cleaners be an alternate solution, even under the hood?

Guy sitting next to me swears by Citrus d-Limonene cleaners but I'm not tried them yet.

I was planning on doing my engine bay this afternoon with 50/50 mixture of SG/Water.... is this still a good idea, or would DAWN be better ??

I use Simple Green on hosed down wheels, tires, wheel wheels, engines and mud flaps. I have never had a problem with it staining any of those. Plus, it's biodegradable, available pretty much anywhere, relatively cheap, and no where as near as harsh as wheel acid.
