Side by side X-Kote comparison 4runner

I was wondering the same thing about it being compared to Presto. Also, will the product be available to people who just want to buy the product, or can it only be applied via a distributor.

Oopps! I just noticed that this was from Feb. of 07, not 08. Sorry :( I am still curious though...

Well seeing as there is still some questions out there on the product I will fill you guys in on some updates.

0) I am not familiar with any competitive products that compare to X-Kote so I can't comment on Presto.

1) I have found that the more you prep the better the finish. Most retail jobs I do now get a 2 stage polish usually with Megs 83 and white wool then Megs 2 and yellow wool. Then I clean and apply the X-kote product.

2) On some paints you get what body guys call " solvent pop" Usually on solid black it is most noticeable. I have started to play around with polishing X-Kote with Megs machine glaze and white soft foam at 800 rpm about 1 hour after application. I have had 2 very nice results recently from this test. I did find though that I needed to heat gun the whole car to speed up the cure process in order to polish. No big deal just an extra half hour of work.

3) SEMA 2007 X-Kote Inc sold starter kits to anyone wanting to try the product. A 3 pack and a training DVD for $169 I think?. If you call Marc at head office in BC they might be able to send out a kit to anyone wanting to try it ? 1-888-956-8388 ( 1-888-x-kote-88) I don't know if that offer is still avail but it might be worth a call.
