Get the absorber from wally world if you need one
 
I picked up a set of the predecessor version at a car show. I recommend them for drying the car. I moisten the "shamwow" with the hose sprayer and drag it lightly over the wet surfaces to remove the water beads, wringing it out frequently. I don't rub with it. It seems to work very well and hasn't scratched the paint. They're machine washable, air dry. They're also very good for spills. We had a bad roof leak a couple of years ago, and these things saved our bedroom carpeting. Most recently, I found it great for wiping enormous amounts of sweat off me while I applied multiple coats of Klasse to the car (using appropriate applicators and polishing cloths). I'm going to order a set of the "shamwow", so I'll have enough of them. On the car, just remember, dampen before use and don't rub. They're very good products; they should be, they're not cheap.
 
I got the ShamWow towels at a car show a few years ago. I ended up talking the guy into giving me 3 sets for $12. They worked pretty good. After numerous times in the washer, they began to become less effective. They do not seem to hold up very well for long term use. Around the kitchen they worked great, and for cleaning up after the kids. For $20 I find microfiber towels a much better buy.
 
Ok to those to those two, 2 posters, are these like the absorber which is a synthetic chamois material? Or is it like all the other made for TV miracle towels and just a thick felt material? Seems like you two are the only definitive ones to actually buy these and I'd just like to know what they're made of.

Mine were nothing like the absorber, neither in feel or quality. They were more like the thick felt material, and they feel as cheap as they are. The $20 they are asking for on the infomercial is way more than I feel they are worth.
 
Ah yes the awesome auger. I believe you can save yourself the money and go to harbor freight buy the same cheap cordless drill and paint stirrer combo for 30 bucks. No lousy 70 dollar "shipping and handling" charge. Oh yeah a long time ago I bought one of those miracle towels at pic and save (now called big lots) but it was just an acrylic felt that swirled the heck out of my cars. I was wary of the absorber for a long time before breaking down and finally buying one and now I really like the absorber. But there are a lot of other absorber imitations, not even cheap felt they even look like the absorber but just don't absorb nearly as well.
 
I have no idea what they're made of. They remove more water than anything else I've tried. I never use them to buff or polish, just to drag the water off. It's also good to have one in the trunk or glovebox, in case of a spill. They're no substitute for quality detailing cloths or towels. I think of it as a synthetic chamois.
 
Shamwow towels are useless for your car. Stick with the Absorber if you're going to use something to dry the car with. It's a good deal on a nice package of cloths that you would use in place of paper towels, around the house, outside, etc.

I love the part where he dumps soda onto a piece of rug, you see the big puddle developing under the piece of rug and when they cut away and come back - BEFORE he places the shamwow on the carpet - somehow miraculously the puddle of water is gone THEN he starts showing how the shamwow sucks up the water. Pay attn next time you're up late and run across the infomercial



Anywho, they have been selling these SHAMWOWs (they have had different names over the years) since I've been going to county fairs and car shows - since 1980. I have noticed the SHAMWOW version over the last 3 years or so at the LA new car show and other car related events, even saw them peddled at a home & garden expo. I tried these years ago and like others have said - felt type material. Good for general cleaning duties kitchen, garage, bathroom but that's about it.



I'm a 100% terry cloth towel guy myself with the "ABSORBER" as a back-up.
 
I use the absorber and have for the past 7years... same one to for that long. works great, takes a beating and you can throw it in the washer. It's never scratched any of my vehicles, I have yet to come across something that dries a car as well as it does and its convenient with the tube to keep it moist thing... even tho my dog killed my tube...
 
i have a "shamwow" type towel that is wrapped in MF. dont know what its called or who makes it. i just picked it up at a local meet somewhere around here. works pretty good, the guy demoed it on an H2 and didnt wring it out once.

I noticed that the first time I seen it. I was like ***, wow great edit guys! Oh well, I agree Leaf Blower, and a Guzzler HD...
 
You know I'm saw the commercial in HD and one thing struck me. When it absorbs water and gets saturated, it looks splotchy. This is the same look that PVA drying skins, AKA the absorber, gets when absorbing water from a freshly squeezed state. Also the way it flops around does not look like the flopping the felt material makes. I really think there's a bait and switch going on. They use an absorber for the ads and send you felt in the mail. I'd just like to see a booth at a fair or trade show and ask to see the demo they use, and see if it's the same material as the ones they sell.

they could get sued if they are not giving you what they advertise. i want to see the demo live. maybe a trip to the la county fair is in order this year.
 
haha i went to a fair this weekend where they did that whole infomercial live, and you wouldnt believe how many people walked out with them. i bought a couple of those things years ago for like 99 cents and theyre definately nothing but thick felt
