Sg

If this is a repost, my bad.

I've recently been applying a winter sealant to my car, and so had been using planning the use of AIO, SGx3 and then megs 16 to top it cause its red.

I really don't know if i like SG.

First of all i was thrown of by its viscosity. The stuff is like milk, and comes out relatively fast if you're not careful.

Second, i dislike how thin you have to apply it, because i usually do my work on my car in a shop at night and oftenly the left over application is so faint it looks just like the swirls i have on my car.

Thirdly, i don't care for how you have to let it cure a day between coats.

Fourthly, its shine is exactly as people refer to it as "candy coated"

I'm complaining alot, and its not fair, but when i was buying my SG i think i expected a different product, because i didnt research it enough.

I do appreciate a few things about SG however.

The protection it gives is teh bets, and it beads like no other in the rain.

If you're a wax/sealant conservationist you literally use a drop of the stuff per panel.... anymore and you sweat trying to remove it.

works well on windshield.

anyway klasse sg is probably not for me. the idea of having to use three coats over three days to get bets possible results is not my "thang"

Cliffs notes:
Annoying to apply/remove
candy coated shine
24 hr cure time = annoying
good on windows
EXCELLENT PROTECTION THUS FAR

for all the work, just not worth it.
6.3/10

The runny consistency of SG is a PITA, but you learn to use it after a few applications, and really you should use all products sparringly as it is just a waste of product otherwise. And Id suggest you try the WOO ( wipe on, wipe off ) method by BillNorth on Autopia as it alleviates the "24 hour wait" thing without comprimising the protective qualities. You still leave it for 24 hours to allow it to "set" though, but you have already dont the hard work 23:58 minutes ago. You can also "dull" the shine by topping with a good wax, I have had good success with S100 and #26 but use whatever floats your boat. Other than that, try another sealant. NXT is easy to use, as too is Poorboys EX-P or Wolfgang ( just dont use the paint cleaner - real PITA [and you thought SG was bad?!?], Id recommend AIO ).

I didn't like SG either. It hazed up on me and was a pita to work with. I like UPP and Wolfgang for sealants.

I haven't had any problems using Wolfgang's pre-war Polish Enhancer. It's one of my favorite products actually. I use it after polishing and before sealing. I apply it with a blue Edge pad on a PC. Never have any problems working with it. Your mileage may vary ...

My only complaint about SG is the container, which I think is really flimsy.

This was my first experience with SG & I found out pretty quick that the container was filled to the top. I took the top off, picked it up & shot a 12" geyser of SG in the air that almost hit me in the face. The container is so flimsy it will collapse when you pick it up, but problem goes away as product level drops in the container.

So now my workbench has acrylic protection.

I found using a damp MF applicator & a WOWO approach with SG works great & I used a different method to take off the residue.

I used a PC & trapped a MF towel against the surface, the pad & MF towel clung together almost like mini-velcro. Change towels when necessary & the results looked great on silver metallic.

SG is durable, no question about it. IMO it has a look of its own too, which many folks seem to like.

SG ease of use is really poor when you compare it with many other sealers on the market (WG, FMJ, EX, EX-P, UPP, etc....). I really don't think you can debate that point, even if you are using Bill's wipe on/wipe off method. Sure Bill's method offers a VAST improvement, but do you have to pay such close attention to the application and removal of other sealers? If you don't mind working with a finicky product then SG is a great choice.

I've purchased several other sealers, many of which I prefer over SG. To each his (or her) own.

I've had the pleasure (or displeasure) of using SG just once so far. I used the WOWO method and didn't find it to be especially difficult to work with. However, after having used UPP, I don't know if I'd go back to SG again, other than for its durability. I may end up relegating it for use on wheels.

I like SG alot and find it easy to use . There's so many products now that have the viscosity of milk anymore it makes you wonder whats in some of this stuff , but it works :dunno . Both of the Klasse products have poor container designs so I use small squzze bottles in their place. I put on SG with damp MF applicator and WO/WO or sometimes depending on my time and the weather I let it stay until I'm done than I go back and remove it . I fine the key to using SG is a super thin coat of it.

Yeah, and i think the thin coat was my biggest issue. I'm the guy who likes to just coat the product on, even if you're not supposed to... just because its easy to see and remove and i always feel like the shine i get is more impressive when i use more.

I think people also misinterpreted my "cure time" thing. i wiped the SG on all over the car then wiped off, not waiting 24 hrs. I meant cures between coats. The next day i'd have to rewash my car and lay another coat over etc.

THAT was frustrating to me.

This fall is my first time to use SG. I've done several cars for people at work using SG and my own car and truck. I've found that a thin coat is better by far when it comes to removal. One thing I began to do was to use the gray waffle weave micofiber towels I got from PAC to remove it. This helps a lot.

I've heard about SG's durability, and so that is why I am using it for the winter months. But in the spring through summer I revert back to EX, UPP and Wolfgang's.

I really want to try any and all of the PBs line and i'd like to try some four star stuff too. I just have only ever been able to get megs most places.

I think you will find that almost all sealants ( zaino being the only exception I can think ofin conjunction with ZFX ) should really be left for 24 hours to "set-up" anyways, not just AIO/SG....

BUMMER! I liked the way AIO went on and off so much, I went out and bought some SG. I sure hope I have better results than you guys or that is a waste of $$ :dunno
