Severe Brake Dusting on Rims from Race Pads. HELP!!!!!!!

hey guys, i'll let the photos explain it.

so there you have it. i've tried using toothbrushes and sponges to remove this, but no good.



please help. what can i use to make the rims look half decent again?



HELP!
 
i've tried claying like a madman. no help. these are race compound pads. c'est tres horrible eh?
 
Maybe something like Eagle One All Wheel Cleaner? I'm guessing that these brakes tend to grab harder, so they probably get much hotter, so the brake dust is probably embedded into the wheel?
 
Yeah did you try a wheel cleaner yet? That would be the first step.



The best practice is to clean the wheels regularly, and seal them. That will make your life a lot easier when cleaning them.
 
brake dust is embedded into wheel, and the compounds are more harsh then your normal stock pads.



i've tried a crappy wheel cleaner (i forgot which one) and it didn't help at all. i should of sealed them with zaino before the track, but nope, i'm stupid.

I always say, prevention is the best way. But it's too late to think about that now, unless you clean them up REAL good and then seal them.



Was this just from one session at the track? :eek:

I would try a strong dilution of meg's wheel brightener. That chemical never ceases to amaze me. Though I've never personally used it, from looking at pictures, this should be a piece of cake for it.
 
Zoom, the Magic Erasers are not to be used on painted surfaces. It says so right on the box. I have the wheel and tire version.

the 7 spokes are oem 97-98 acura integra type r wheels, the others are volk te-37's. volks in that size are 4-500 a rim
 
Did you wash them the day after your track event? Did the wheels get wet after the track before you washed them?



I had a Z06 that I had done 30 trackdays with. I never had a problem as I washed the wheels when I got home after they cooled off. I used carbotech or PFC 01 pads. The PFC pads are real bad with the dust but I always got it off with no problems. I used Poorboys SnR with excellent results.
 
You should try EO A2Z wheel cleaner. Its the strongest wheel cleaner I've ever used, but safe if used according to the directions. Let dwell for 30sec and agitate well with brush, then rinse well. See how you go.

If you want to give this a shot and have any trouble finding it, drop me a PM. I have several 2 oz samples I be glad to swap.
 
TOL sells a very potent wheel cleaner called Wheel Wash. Label says it's nonacidic but you'd sure never think so from the smell, how it feels on your skin, or how it clouds bare aluminum. I'd give that a try, scrubbing with a soft (like for non-stick cookware, better yet if it's kinda worn out) ScotchBrite pad while it's dwelling.
