Selling my Beloved Bimmer

Sorry to hear that Berry. I would look for a good detailer in the area to get it looking sharp to get the best price ;)

Do you plan on trading it in on something cheaper or selling it out right?

Well, yeah, it is lookin' pretty good. I know a good detailer:wink:
With the exception of severe road rash on the front end, the car is in great condition. I think I will be selling it outright and then look to purchase something less expensive. I might have to look on that 5 cars I would never own list.:o

Post it for sale in the water cooler section of this forum.
Look on kbb.com to determine the value.
Post it on craig's list or ebay.
Place it for sale where it's safe and heavy traffic.
It all comes down to it's worth what someone is willing to pay for it.

As many of you know, I have been out of work for quite some time now. Although my detailing jobs have picked up recently, it is just not enough to keep us going. Unfortunately, I have to sell my bimmer because we just can't afford the payments anymore.

The reason for this post is not for your sympathy, but advise on how to go about getting top dollor for it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Put it on ebay.

Maybe take it to Carmax and see what they will give you.

Or just sell it privately.

If you dont mind me asking, what was the sticker price and how much are you looking to get for it.

Great advice here Barry ^^^ Hit all the free online ads you can. Also, as Firebird has said. Find a parking lot/strip mall and parkit there for a day or two with a for sale sign in both fronts windows and the :money: amount on the windshield. If possible, get permission from manager/owner of lot. If not, go rogue and check lots for Tow-a-Way signs. If you see no such sign, parkit close to the street in a hi-volume/income area. Worse that should happen is they call and ask you to move it :-t

Oh yea, be sure to at least wash the car and vacume it out :-B

My brother in law got rid of an AMG 3XX convertable. Not sure of the exact model but it was bucks. She unlaoded it at www.swapalease.com

Not sure of the fees or detail but its worth looking into. Sorry to hear about your circumstance. I got rid of my M3 because at the time the maintenace cost was eating me alive. It was a 1988 white with dark interior. I still wish I had it but at the time 4 rotors, and exhaust leak, and a clutch put me over the edge weeks after replaceing the head gasket. It had 176,000 mile on it when I got rid of it. I got it new in 1988 and traded it in on a 1995 Volvo 850 Turbo white exteror dark interior. Man how getting married and having a kid changes things! I got married in 1991. Volvo's followed by a Saab, to an infiniti to another infiniti. No doubt you will be back! This is like therapy for me. Sorry to run on.

Wishing you the best of luck. Given the economy why dont we add a section where members can possible help member get leads on work? What do you do, or want to do? I am in sales and I meet alot of new people and large organization every day. I would love to help you if I could. If you dont feel comfortable posting you can PM me.
Good Luck

Jeff

Really sorry to hear about this Barry! :(

The best thing you can do is search and find out what others are selling for in the area. You definitely don't want to be the one with the highest priced add either.

My friend actually sells software to dealerships which tells them exactly what particular cars in a certain area are selling for, what they should pay for a car being traded in, and so on...

If you want I can see if he'll run a seach for cars in your region.

Just list all your cars details and I'll call him. :)

Barry,

I am also sorry to hear you have to sell your Bimmer. Being a Bimmerhead since 1999 and still going, I can really relate to what it feels to let one go.

You might want to get as many inputs as possible regarding the price in your area for your car - check out Nada.com I believe, and Edmunds.com, for more pricing info to help you come up with a good competitive price.

Outright selling is always the best way if possible, but I have heard alot of good things going on at Swapalease.com too.

Also make sure you can provide or show all maintenance being done, up to date, etc., and this will help potential buyers figure out if they can afford it or not more easily, etc..

I have heard Carmax makes good deals too when selling outright, but dont have any "hands on" experience with them myself.

You might also go by your friendly BMW dealership and see what they have on trade-ins, that might work for your circumstances as well.
Depending on the year of your car, they might want to take it and make it a Certified Pre-Owned car and sell it themselves, you never know..

I look at cars on Ebay once and awhile, and its quite daunting the amount of cars out there at any given moment. You will need to take a good quality set of pics for that and places like Autotrader.com, etc...

There are also Consignment lots around your area I imagine, might give one of those places a call ?

Good Luck, I wish I could help, but we are also hanging on by a tread sometimes too. I am doing all I can to help us not lose our house at the moment...

I just thought of something - I am a member of the BMW CCA and that allows me to post cars for sale in the Roundel Magazine, which is also on-line now.. Let me know if you want me to post up an ad for you - I dont know how it works, but would be glad to try it for ya'..

It would go here - BMW CCA [bmwcca@bmwcca.org]

Be glad to help you out any way I can from way over here, just PM or call me if you want..

Best to you and the family !

another sorry for your misfortune barry. believe me i know how expensive it is to keep a BMW running. all good advice you're getting and i'm sure you'll get top dollar for it and in due time you'll have another one. it is the ultimate driving machine...good luck buddy.

Send me the details of it and i will post it on a few sites I am on, with your contact information. I will put it on supraforums.com and a couple other big sites. Most sites like that require you to be a member for at least 3 months or have xxx posts before you can list a car for sale.

It is a 2006 and I bought it pre-owned. KBB says it is worth $17,000. I would really like to get $20,000 to pay everything off.

I am not too proud to ask for help.

Sal,
Good advise about the bmw forums. I will check it out.

Barry, I'm so sorry to hear. It looks like some good advice here. I hope you get a good sum of money for it.

Barry, are payments so high that you can't afford them? Have you thought on refinancing? Golden 1 give really good rates...have you thought of reprioritising priorities? Such as don't take ANY unnecessary vacations (I'm 28, married, and NEVER been to Hawaii, I didn't go for a honeymoon anywhere)?
Just throwing hints out there, maybe they'll help, maybe not...
5 year loan payments on $20k loan should be less then $400 a month...

I actually sold the car back to BMW today. They gave me the best deal. I was laid off from work about 6 months ago, and things are really getting tough, so we couldn't afford to keep up the huge monthly payments on the bimmer. We have made cuts everywhere, so unfortunately this had to be done.

I think I got a bit emotional today as I road away without my baby! I will keep my user name to keep myself motivated, to get back to that point.

Thanks to all of you for your good thoughts.
