Sealant or Glaze

Is the Klasse high gloss sealant glaze a sealant or glaze or both? What is the difference between a sealant and a glaze? Sorry for the stupid ?s I'm just getting started in the detailing world. Thanks in advance.

Dustin

Klasse SG is a sealant, one of the best. Sealants are LSPs and which last months. A glaze is a light polish that mostly hides imperfections and brings out the shine in the paint, most only last maybe 3-4 weeks.

KSG has a really confusing name, but it's really a sealant. A glaze is a product used before a wax to hide scratches and make the paint look wetter (which is NOT what KSG does).

So if I use the KSG what would be a glaze to add with it? Do you use the glaze after the sealant or before, I would guess before? Here is an example of my steps so far:

1. Wash

2. Clay

3. Wash (p21s shampoo)

4. Polish (3m products)

5. Glaze (?)

6. Sealant (KSG)

7. Wax (Pinnacle Souveran or p21s concours)

8. Tire spray (Poorboys B n' B)

Feel free to critique my selection or order. Should I do just one layer of each or will some require multiple? I hear people waiting up to 12-24hrs. to apply other coats of products, if you do wait this long should you rewash your car to rinse off any dust or dirt particles off that could of settle on the car? Thank alot for you help.

SG is not going to be as durable if you apply it over a glaze. If that doesn't concern you, then by all means, apply the glaze.

You can apply multiple layers of SG if you want, but it's mainly for durability purposes. You should at least QD the car if you wait 12hrs to apply another coat of something.

QD refers to either:

1) A "quick detailer" product

2) the process of using a quick detailer product

Examples include:

Mother's Showtime

Poorboy's Spray and Gloss

Clearkote Quikshine

FourStar Ultimate Gloss Enhancer

Z8

etc...

This is true. The SG won't last as long as if it were directly bonding with the paint.

But I find it quite important to seal a glaze in if you want the glaze to last it's at least whole month.

Glaze by itself under a rainy day is gone.

Glaze with no rain, can last maybe a week.

Glaze with a carnauba based LSP can last maybe 2 weeks.

A sealant should be able to hold it up to a month. (In this instance, the glaze effects are probably worn off after the second week but you still have the LSP protection.)

The glaze to use with the Klasse Twins that won't compromise durability is the Chemical Guy's Creme Glaze. It's Acrylic based. It's the perfect fit for the SG.

Why not go the classic Klasse route? Use Klasse All-In-One immediately before SG. No glazes. Build up 5 layers of SG and see if you still want to put on a carnauba. I find carnaubas to not always improve on SG but this is product and color dependent. For darker colors, Souveran can improve on it but the look is different. On silver, S100 works great over SG although it's not so succesful on darker colors. I personally don't think that Klasse is that special until after coat #3 then it turns into a rolling piece of art.

In your sequence, plug in AIO in step 5 and forego the glaze. Al ot of us use AIOx2 just to ensure coverage. I recommend the Menzerna polishes to remove scratches by abrading them. Glazes just fill them in to be less visible but eventually evaporate, leaving you with your original swirls.

AIO and SG is the Klasse 1-2 punch. They are meant to work together and you get optimum results. SG cannot be used without AIO without compromising something. SG bonds to AIO, AIO will remove what's on the paint. It will remove glazes if you put that on.

BTW, you get at least 4-6 months of protection with AIO/SG. Once you top with a carnauba, you need to AIO again if you want to go back to SG because SG will not bond optimally to carnauba.

Could you do AIO-2 or 3 coats of SG-Glaze-SG? Would that give a deeper finish without sacrificing durability?

That wouldn't make sense for two reasons.

1) The glaze wouldn't be able to hide any swirls because they would be under the SG. Glazes sometimes contain cleaners too, so it would decrease the durability to the SG beneath it.

2) The later coats of SG would not bond well to the glaze.

Bump--sounds like a cool product :xyxthumbs

Does it hide minor imperfections like most other glazes, or is it strictly for enhancing shine?
