Scratch X and MPPC?

Prometheus

Hi guys. So, i've got some wierd scratches i want to get rid of, i cant feel them with my nail but they are white (car's black). Would MPPC do anything for these? I know it will help get rid of some of the light swirls and stuff, but will it do anything for these? Should i use ScratchX instead? Would something like #9 be better yet? I don't know what i should use, thus why im asking. Thanks in advance for your time.

Medallion is primarily a chemical cleaner while Scratch X is more abrasive. If you're doing this work by hand, Scratch X would be the better choice. #9 is much milder than the two above but may be a good follow up depending on how the paint looks after scratch removal.

Hi Prometheus,

If you’re working by hand, you will get better results with ScratchX.

Use a clean, foam applicator pad and some elbow grease and work direction on the scratches. Make sure you clean and clay the area first.

In the last two weeks I have demonstrated how effective ScratchX is by hand on clear coat paint using a foam applicator and a little elbow grease. This is not a "Wipe-on", "Wipe-off" product, you have to work it.

If your using a Porter Cable, then you can use the MPPC and it will be more effective than the ScratchX. MPPC contains both a diminishing abrasive and a chemical cleaner.

Check out the before and after pictures of a bird dropping etching on a clear coat that were almost completely removed by hand using ScratchX.

Just so you know, I demonstrated Meguiar's philosophy of always using the least aggressive product to get the job done. For the bird dropping, I first used Deep Crystal Paint Cleaner, which is a chemical paint cleaner only.

I then demonstrated Meguiar's Clear Coat Body Scrub, which is both a chemical cleaner and a diminishing abrasive. The results were even better.

Then I applied the ScratchX and when I was through, you could hardly tell where the bird etching had been.

The pictures don't do the results justice, but the ScratchX is effective if you put a little elbow grease and passion behind the applicator pad.

Like I mentioned, I didn't get a picture after using the ScratchX, but it was almost impossible to tell where the bird etching was previously. Point being, removing a bird drop etching and a scratch are the kind of the same thing, you're removing paint in an effort to level the paint and restore a smooth glossy finish.

Cool, i think ill pick up some ScratchX then. Should i still use the MPPC or just skip it all together then? I was planning on using Scratch X, maybe followed by #9 (only planning on useing ScratchX on really bad spots) followed by #81 and #16. Should i use the MPPC before #9 anyway, or just skip it? THanks for all your help.

BTW, Mike, is that a Cavalier you're working on there? Didn't know you guys even messed round with communter cars at Meg's

After the ScratchX you can polish if you like or go right to a wax.

We used the Cavalier because it made for an excellent Extreme Makeover. By using this car I was able to demonstrate all kinds of products and procedures so that the attendees could learn a variety of skills that day.

Hi Rusty,

Three factors that influence the results of any product,

1) Depends on the hardness, or softness of the paint

2) Your application material

3) Your application procedure

Applied by hand with a clean foam applicator then "No"

Applied with a wool cutting pad on rotary buffer with extreme pressure, then "Yes"

In most case, the answer is "No". The Deep Crystal Paint Cleaner is a very, very mild paint cleaner. It is non-abrasive and relies on chemical cleaners for it's cleaning ability.
