Scottie Pippen's old Porsche??; MB E320

Well, now that I have your attention . . .

Some 6-8 weeks ago I put a business card on a black Porsche 911 Carrera convertible in the parking lot of a high-end shopping center, and lo and behold, the owner called last week and scheduled an appointment. It's a 1995 with just 48K on the odo. Owner says the dealer where he bought it informed and assured him that the car was originally owned by Scottie Pippen. No documentation of this, BUT whoever was the first owner had an expensive sound system installed including custom-made fiberglass speaker housings which required removal of the two rear seats. (Now, who would do that to a $68,000 Porsche?) (But how does anyone 6'8"/230 lbs squeeze into one of these things?)

Anyway, overall the car was in pretty decent shape, w/ minimal battle scars, and just some mild to moderate swirls. Sorry, but cloud cover and a 7:30 a.m. start time made for lousy before photos, but I did manage to get these two of the swirls:

By the time I got to the exterior, the sun was out so I decided to make this a 1-2-3 Poorboy's detail:

Clayed the horizontal surfaces

SSR 2.5 with a Meguiar's burgandy pad

SSR 1 with a Meguiar's polishing pad

EX w/ carnauba with a Meguiar's finishing pad

The alloy wheels got ClearKote Metal Polish, AIO, and Collinite Fleetwax

Dressed the wheel wells with Armor All

Meguiar's High Endurance gel on the tires

This 1999 MB E320 belongs to another new client to whom I gave a business card about 6 months ago (why does it take so long?). He's had a local Splash & Dash giving it periodic "details". Almost no battle scars and little in the way of swirls or spider-webbing. It is a garage queen, but the lack of swirls was surprising--when I wet the car down there was no evidence of ANY paint protection. The water lay perfectly flat with no definition of any kind. In fact, from 3 feet you couldn't even tell there was water on the horizontal surfaces.

For this one I simply polished with OP on a polishing pad and hand-applied Prime and Acrylic Jett Trigger, buffing the latter off with a finishing pad.

The chrome wheels took extra time--the lips of all the slots were encrusted with brake dust, road grime, and some minor corrosion. (The boys at the car wash must have missed this?) Removed these with #0000 steel wool & some light rubbing compound, then sealed with Collinite Fleetwax.

Just a few pix of this one since it's sort of a plain vanilla detail job:

Hope you enjoyed the pics.

FYI, Porsche will install/move the seat rails to give any sized person all the room they need.

Nice work on both cars.

I detailed the exact same Porsche a few weeks back. Thank God that clear is sooo soft.

Both cars look great, but like Scott said nothing beats a black porsche.

Pippens old porsche is up here for sale at our local dealership...it's red with all red and black interior....

Tasty:

What's with the one pic with all the weird pixellation on the bumper area?

The Porsche? I blotted out the license plate for the sake (privacy) of the client.

I would never say this to the client, but I'm betting there have been dozens of Porsches sold that were described by dealers/sales reps as "formerly belonging to" Pippen, Jordan, Barkley, etc., etc.

This one was about the right age (Bulls' championship years) and had been significantly modified. Also, my client has some connection to Chicago. But I attempted to indicate my own skepticism with the ?? in the thread title and by noting the absence of documentation--original ownership is questionable, resting primarily on the claim of the dealer.

I'm also pretty sure Pippen had the wherewithal to have a succession of Porsches if he had wanted.

Which one do you have at your local dealership?

That shot is amazing! Good job on the porsche and the merc! Keep it coming! :spot

Speaking of Pippen, My friend's sister's friend's sister is his wife! lol I believe he still lives in Highland Park out where jordan lives too.

This picture specifically. It looks like right underneath the car and all on the bumper is just pixellated. I don't think it's my monitor, although no one else has commented on it. Don't know if something funky happened with the camera or what. No biggie, just strange.

Trust me I wasn't trying to say anything. I bet there is a good chance that he had a lot more than one Porsche. The red 911 up here is pretty sweet with the bulls interior. BTW Nice job!

I noticed the same thing about the picture as Tasty. The bumper area is pixellated for some strange reason. Maybe we both need glasses or something :)

Cars look great BTW :2thumbs:

I didn't notice the "pixellation" until I zoomed on the photo. I have no idea what caused it, but here's another shot from the original photo:
