Scents and Color Gimmicks

There is this company which I have to congratulate. They use gimmicks such as scents and brilliant colors to appeal to our senses. I guess it's like a pack of cigs. The cover is a sale point. I read better reviews on other products but their marketing sure brings me back every time. No, I have not used many of there products. But to my better judgment I keep looking at their products rather than going with what the reviews read. It's like a candy store for the senses. Maybe it's just me and I am a stupid sucker, idiot....I am trying very hard to say no. I won't give in to impulse. Colors and scents don't make for a better looking car. But it sure would look pretty on my shelf.

I've said it before, so I'll say it here again - given the choice of using a pleasing-to-smell product versus one the smells like a chemist's a$$, I'll pick the good smelling one every time (given that they're in the same ballpark price figure).

I'm not real sure where you're going with a lot of your posts. Seems like this is almost a backdoor stab at a particular vendor. For you to be congratulatory, you sure didn't name any names. I'm beginning to question what your true motives might be, or better yet if you're someone else behind another different (or perhaps multiple) screen name.

I dunno - maybe I'm a bit too skeptical.....

It's the whole appeal of Marketing, a part of a business doing their job in an effort to move their products. If I ran a company and my marketing team was launching our new line of wax and they showed me a white bottle with the word "Wax" on it and thats it I would be scratching my head. As opposed to the other prouct with a bright bottle, flashy lettering and a description of what it does, like restores color, enhances shine and makes water bead. Even if the two products are exactly the same I would bet that the one in the flashy bottle gets bought more often as it appeals to our senses.

At the end of the day the reviews you read in many instances aren't worth anymore than the colors and scents of which you speak. Literally you can name a product and a desired opinion, do a search and you can find the review you want.

If you want to know what a product or company is all about you've got to put the product through the paces yourself. You have to do it in your environment, with your budget, using your equipment. Until you've done that it's simply speculation or someone else's opinion. Most of the time they will not be using the same equipment you use or put against the environmental factors you face.

As has been mentioned, given two products all else being equal I will take one with a pleasant scent any day. Do you mind telling us which company has the pretty products that tempt you? It seems that you are slamming a product/company admitting little experience with the product.

I can name several that do exactly what you are saying with varying degrees of success. Chemical Guys, PoorBoys and DP just to name a few. Each of these companies have products I would use and one I use frequently and is my product of choice (assuming I have to name one). I use the product because I like the result, the scent and pretty colors are a bonus. If people end up liking the product it probably goes beyond colors and scents.

I too am wondering what your intentions are here. If you've got something to say, spit it out. Young Living Essentials is located a few miles south of me, mentioning their products in a detailing environment seems quite bizarre. I'm sure they would tell you this isn't their target audience.

Nah, just give me the old stinky white products. That petro chemical smell really jazzes me and if all my products are white or clear I can make a game out of guessing what is what in my spray bottles. Of course without labeling, I could have the same problem with someone who likes BLUE tinted products :D

I'm probably in the minority here but I do use EO products with some regularity. G:):)gling Young Living Essential however gives me a moment of pause. I think I'll stick to the products I'm familiar and are readily available locally.

stay there... dont leave the house.. the call came from inside the house... oh no what todo what todo

OOO do we get to guess? everyone likes a good secret.. is it time for the big reveal like in scooby doo?

I actually prefer products that have a pleasant smell. My favorite of all time is/was Pinnacle's Crystal Mist. That stuff was fantastic. Colors come in handy so you know what you are grabbing. As mentioned in a previous thread, when the bottles all look the same, you have to be careful to actually grab what you need.

If anyone thinks that scent dosen't help sell product , walk into a room were someone has just popped a fresh batch of popcorn. I know in our drivers breakroom that after one guys does this then before you know it a half a dozen are doing the same. As for glitzy packaging I fall into the same trap as others on some unknown products.

I'm with others here.........what is the point of this thread? It certainly seems that there is an underlying purpose for this......but what?

Don't do the popcorn smell. THere is something called "popcorn lung" Big law suit time. And if you're an employer you could be liable if it's happening on your premises.

Ronkh , I thought you were pulling my leg on this one but googled popcorn lung and saw where a law firm in MO. specializes in this type of lawsuit. It appears it is a type of COPD. They claim it happens mostly in the plants that produce the micro-wave product and is caused by the additive used for the buttery taste. All this time I thought I was out of breath because of being old and fat when really its the popcorn-j/k. Learn something new everyday even at my age. Thanks.
