S100 Longevity

~One man’s opinion / observations ~

Thanks, not too long I cut and paste from a book (work in progress) to be published as an E-book soon

I have always tried to find out not just “How it works, but also “Why it works. With that in mind I probably respond with more detail than some think is necessary. But try to write my responses in a way that helps the reader to understand not only "How" to do something, but "Why" they are doing it.

~Hope this helps~

I'm in the Dallas area and 2 months is typical for a carnauba.....S100, P21S, and Souveran are just WOWO so another application is pretty painless. I also like the look of carnaubas, but for durability and a slicker feeling finish I go with a sealant.

That's what works for me. Once I understand a topic I remember it for a long time. When I just try to memorize, I forget quickly.

I had someone tell me that carnaubas only last from 1 to 3 weeks, and that I must have a special tub of S100 because it has lasted for 5 weeks so far.

Here are the quotes:

"Spend 3,000.00 on Zymol and you'll understand. Use Soveruan and you'll see a 2 week life span. Use P21S and you'll see a 2 week life span. Use Blitz and you'll see a 3 week life span. Use Meguiars and you'll see a 2-3 week shine before it starts to drop off. I speak from the work I've done, where do you get your info?"

"P21S wax is the same as S100. I doubt it's going strong on 5 weeks. The hardcore detailing community doesnt agree with that statement nor do I............and I use it on my car (kept outside) and another garage kept car. It wont last 5 weeks and "keep going strong" even if it was garage kept BUT thats going to be something we dont agree on and I'm not here to make you think otherwise. I beleive what I see, maybe you got the special edition of S100."

I guess I just don't know what I am talking about

In my tests with S100 I get about 3-4 weeks or maybe 3 washes, whichever comes first. Your environment and vehicle care regimen is VERY critical to making carnauba waxes last. Leave your vehicle outside 24/7 in the Wax Killer Combo of high heat (90F+), high humidity, and summer downpours and you'll be lucky to get 3 weeks. Keep your car indoors mostly and lightly wash it or QD it and you can double the product's life.

On the same note, I have difficulty viewing his posts. My guess is that he types them on MS Word, which in turn confuses my stupid PC. Jon, perhaps consider putting "~Hope this helps~ Experience unshared; is knowledge wasted? Jon justadumbarchitect * so I question everything *" as a signature instead?

This is what it looks like on my PC:

OK, back to the original subject, um, the feel lasts 2 weeks, the beading lasts 3 weeks, and everything remaining is gone the fourth week.

If you use QEW as your primary wash method, you will get noticably improved durability with carnaubas. Just a thought

Matt - I don't use it exclusively on my car, but I estimate 10 coats used and still 2/3 of the jar is full.

Lasts a long time, especially for $14.

On the Yukon, I use EO wash and Z6, Wolfgang, or QS detailers. 5 weeks time and still beading and shining with nice slickness.

Hey guys,

I'm just going to jump in briefly. First, earlier TOGWTsaid:

Just wanted to let you know, TOGWT, that I for one sure don't think you provide too much detail. Hell, half the fun is trying to figure out how all this stuff works, and your posts are always a beacon of help. :xyxthumbs

Secondly, there may be toppers available for s100 which extend its life indefinitely. I'm trying out one such potential product (Protect All's All Surface Care) here:

I'm extremely happy with the combo. Now I just have to write down why, and post it.:)

I've had it bead well for 8 weeks easily.

---This is more than enough for me during warm months, but not long enough to get through the winters here.

That's OK...I'm trying WAUD this winter to see if it helps.

In hot, humid climates where the car is washed a few times a week, S100 only lasts about 3 weeks max.

Years ago, I used to it from my Harley dealer for USD 27.

I had excellent gloss and 3 week durability.

Couple of months ago, they were selling it at 17.

I don't know why the price dropped so much. BUt when I used it, I find that it is no longer as glossy and impressive as before.

I still get the 4 wk durability.

It's water beading ability deteriorates noticeably after a few washes.

"How long does the water beading last" is very subjective.

I expect round, fat water beads that look just like they were on the day of waxing. S100's loses that fat, round beading after a few washes. For others, as long as there's some water beads (regardless of shape and intensity), they still consider it as water beads.

I've changed from Meguiars and S100 to a brand call Swissol.

Very expensive and beads water like crazy after 3 weeks!

I highly recommend Clear Pearl from Eimann for QD on P21S. I have been using all Spring and Summer for great results.

I get 4-6 weeks on a vehicle outside 24/7 and on the garaged at night vehicle it definitely lasts longer...8 to 10 weeks.

I mainly use it for when I want a different type of look as a topper of Zaino.

The nice thing about S100 is that I can apply and remove it almost as fast as doing a quick detail.
