Rub marks on seat from belt loop - GS460

Hey all,

So, I've recently noticed some wear marks that have shown up on my '08 Lexus GS460's driver's seat. It looks like marks from the dual belt loops on my jeans, but this seems like an awful lot of damage from only driving the car MAYBE 200 miles :( I never had an issue with this on my '95 SC400, nor do I notice any damages on the other cars I drive daily... Here's a pic of the damages. Any input or advice on fixing this would be greatly appreciated!
 
That area of the seat is typically not known for "wearing down". It looks like to me you had something on your pants. Have you tried cleaning it?
 
It looks like the seat material has rubbed off from the pictures. My best advice would be to see if the dealer will entertain same as a warranty repair. If not, you can either live with it or visit an upholstery shop.
 
You say you have only driven this car 200 miles, but it is an 08, correct?

Is this a used car that you recently purchased? Looks to me like a dye job that is quickly rubbing off, although that's a random guess until I get a little more info.
 
I got the car with 16,000 miles (previous owners were old and never drove it). As of today, it has 16,198 miles, and the seats were immaculate! I think this happened just today :/ Figured black would be easier to maintain than tan interior :( Been driving me nuts! I cleaned and treated it with Lexol, which helped a little, but it's still there. I just don't see how one day of light rubbing from jeans that aren't very rough at all could do THIS much damage.

Yeah, light abrasion shouldn't damage healthy leather like that. I would figure either it was re-dyed at some point or damaged by some type of chemical exposure. That is definitely not normal, but judging from pictures it looks like it will need to be recovered.
 
I'm tempted to try re-dyeing just those small spots with a small brush. Any experience doing such a job? Thanks for all the help!

Try using lacquer thinner or an apc to clean it first. If that doesn't work you could spray that section. I wouldn't use a brush
 
I cleaned it up a bit last night and let some Lexol conditioner soak in for a bit, and that seemed to help a bit more, but still not where I'd like it to be :/

Not going to lie, the laquer idea scares me a bit, haha. Might be out of my skill level!
 
I would try using an all purpose cleaner/degreaser or even a laquer thinner like what trouble mentioned above. You paid good money I'm sure for those leather seats, they're made tough with quality materials made to withstand uv rays/spills/ect from everyday use. I definitely would not recommend dying it especially with a brush, you won't get the results you're looking for. If conditioner is helping the spot, keep at it, it'll clean up eventually I'm sure. I've even used conditioner with a scotch brite pad(I think that's what they are called) and doused the pad with conditioner/apc or whatever you're using to clean up leather. Good luck and keep us updated with results!

If the dye has been rubbed off, the only thing a conditioner is going to do is soak into the underlying raw leather and darken it (because its wet).

As far as redying, I would suggest using a professional.
 
Are you sure you didn't sit on a Twinkie or Ho Ho or perhaps lean against a freshly painted fence?
I still say that will clean up. Wish you were located near me

Sorry for the late reply, everyone. I just did some Lexol cleaner/conditioner, and that seemed to help a little bit, but still there :(

Trouble - I actually checked my pants and shirt to see if that was the case, but didn't see anything at all.

JSFM35X - I don't have a cell phone case, so I don't think that's the case (pun not intended) here. :/
 
TRD.......I zoomed in on the bottom right picture (where the white glob is the thickest) in your picture and it does appear to me something is on top of the leather.

Get a magnifying glass and see if you can see yourself. Although I could be wrong.

Now that the lexol conditioner has had a chance to soften what it is, try giving it another scrub! That is unless you can clearly see the leather has really been worn .
