Rock chips more noticeable after Zaino. . .

Hey - new here. . .anyway, had a local pro detailer do a full Zaino on my black 06 MB that I purchased use last summer. Prior to going Zaino I had used Blitz Polish and Blitz Wax on the car and it looked good with a few noticeable rock chips on the front.

Anyway, the detailer used dawn to remove all the waxes, etc and then did the following:

1. Wash

2. Claybar twice

3. Wash

4. Z5 x 2

5. Z6

The car looks great but the hood now shows lots of rock chips - lots. I asked the detailer if touch up paint had come off, etc and he said no that there were probably multiple layers of wax/dirt/wax that filled in the chips over time so that they weren't noticeable. . .and that Zaino doesn't really hid anything.

So. . .does this make sense?

Next steps. . thinking:

1. Strip zaino (dawn)

2. Touch up hood

3. Redo Zaino process

Thoughts/ideas?

No need to strip a perfect application of zaino. But that detailer is right...the Blitz wax probably has fillers in them, which hide swirls and scratches, and yes fill in chips over time. Zaino will not fill or hide anything either!

Have someone do a proper chip repair...then you wont have this problem...the detailer did nothing wrong..except use Dawn...many detailers have mixed feelings of Dawn!

Zaino brings out the "clarity" in the paint, so any defects that you have such as rock chips will be fairly visible in the sunlight.

You can use this option... get a repaint and then a cleabra...just a suggestion.

Don't strip the Zaino, just do an alcohal wipe of the chips and use the touch up very sparingly, then let dry for a day and reZaino.

So I can just re-Zaino the problem areas and it will blend? Process would be:

1. Spot wipe with alchohol

2. Touch up.

3. Z5 a few coats just on the spot and immediate area

4. Z6

Would this work?

Thanks

What I'm saying is to alcohol wipe the chips to remove Zaino, then fill in the chips with touch up paint, then let dry for a day or so, then reapply the Zaino.

Get the touch up from the dealership and use it very sparingly, how well it looks is up to you and how well you can apply it.

I wouldnt advise doing anything in "spots", do the whole panel so everything is even! If you do things in spots, they will show as "spots"...follow what I mean? Just like if you were to polish a spot on your hood, it will look totally different from the rest and stand out like a sore thumb!

Everything else looks good though...

I understand what you're saying when it comes to polishing and buffing and such, but we're talking about rock chips not faded out, oxidized SS paint??

An alcohol wipe of a few isolated areas of the freshly detailed car will NOT stand out at all, I can say that from experience.

Wipe the areas that need touching up, then touch up, let dry, then rewax, there will be no difference in those areas compared to the rest of the car. Just go easy with the touch up paint.

I'll second what Josh is saying.... Strip off the Zaino in the areas of the rock chips with the alcohol wipes, apply touch up paint to rock chips, let touch up dry, then apply more Zaino to entire hood.

But, yes, the only way for a perfect 100% seamless chip repair will be a trip to the body shop to fill, and repaint. Costly, and, if you drive your car it will get more chips. I would go for the touch up.....unless it's really bad.
