Review: Meguiar's DA Microfiber System

I just purchased the whole setup, but am sort of regretting some of it. Since the finish "wax" wont ever be the LSP on my car, it might not be of any use to me. Not sure if that also means the finish pads are of no use as well, or if I can use the MF finish pads along with a different finishing polish (Megs 205 or one of the Menzernas).

Backing plate is still needed I guess, and it sounds like the compound is a winner...I liked 105 the few times I used it but hated the dust and relatively hard wipe-off. Im sure some Autopian might want to buy the finish wax :)

Don't feel bad, they made the products and had 25 pros test them before launching. They obviously work on many applications. Just don't be like me and swap out your whole arsenal, then get to a job and be like "OH SNAP..." ya, happened with the black porsche I did.

I think you'll use it. I got a gallon of D301 and it's pretty nice as a light abrasive AIO to top with a wax. I am not sold on it as a finishing polish, but I can see it being useful. Leaves the paint nice and smooth too. Kind of reminds me of Poliseal.

d300 still dusts up, it's red and not white like M105 though LOL.

Weird, mine doesn't dust at all. Like, not even a little. Well...maybe a little, but like, one spec. :) Of course I am using it primarily on foam pads.

You'll get some very light dust, but nothing like M105 on a foam or Surbuf pad. Most my dusting comes from blowing off the pads, not polishing. ;)

Why would you get rid of all your other stuff? I can't think of anyone that said this is a replacement system...it's nothing more than an additional tool in your arsenal.

I have a question--with this system, how long would you say it takes to finish a car?

I guess what I'm curious about is exactly how much time gets shaved off using this system?

I'm assuming for super soft paints the answer will be not much because...well soft paints are just pita no matter what...but on the average car any idea on what we're looking at?

You're right, on soft paint the answer, for me, is no time at all saved. That said, on average paints it adds up. I save a lot of time just not cleaning up dust. I did a 1 series today, light swirls, D300/white LC flat foam, then D301/black LC concave, came out great, probably saved , I'll say...45-60 min vs say, 105/white foam, 106fa/black just from the ease of use/cleanup when wiping, dust, blah blah blah.

I'm not saying 'omg go buy it', but they do fit a nice niche at least for me. I don't like having to jump to 105 for anything but super fine marring and I'd been doing that; so D300 fits in right below it well.

I dont feel it cuts down any time on the compounding step for me. But what it can allow you to do is not have to follow up with an intermediate step. Sometimes itll finish down so well you can go to your finishing step.

What do you guys wash the pads with? I know Megs says you can put them in regular wash with detergent, just wondering what type of detergent is commonly used.

I usually use Purex (free and clear) liquid for my MF stuff....will that work for these pads too?

Thanks.

Any of your favorite liquid detergents should be fine as long as they don't contain any fabric softeners. Personally I use Woolite for High Efficiency machines.

I washed them twice with Purex liquid and a double rinse. Still have some staining (pinkish from the compound and a little dark where it hit some black trim that wasnt taped)

Should I bother getting them pearly white again? I figure there is no dirt left in them, just the staining so probably not a big deal.

A pad once used is never going to be 100% perfectly like new in appearance again, even after washing. As long as you've gotten any buildup out of them they're fine.
