Review: Durrmaid Extractor (long)

This is good info. I hope this thread scares off many of their potential customers as they are certainly not a good company.

Thats ridiculous. If the owner didn't want bad press on forums, he should support his ****** products. Amen to ProperAutoCare. Phil was very helpful and professional when my pads began to seperate from the velcro.

The poster probably just saved thousands of wasted dollars. Good work!

woah woah woah. How many of you actually have a NEW durrmaid unit?

I do.

I've used mytee triple vacuum units, thermax units and this thing will deliver results, trust me; at least the new model will. I've had my durrmaid since the beginning of the year, and for a 1.5 gal in tank heater unit, you can't beat the price. I haven't used an Aztec unit, but I have used Danase and Bob is AWESOME.

If you are reading this review, please realize that this is a review on an old durrmaid model and not the current model on the market. I will standby this machine and say that it is perfect for the startup mobile detailer who wants to provide better results than then scrub and extract with a shop vac method. Also, I have called once about service and I received service I would expect from any company. Feel free to PM me about any questions.

As far as the hot water goes, you could have boiling water in the tank and bye the time it goes thru the hose and reaches the tool it will lose a considerable amount of temperature. That is not abnormal at all. On any extractor you buy, you will lose on average 15-30 degrees temperature bye the time the water hits the end of the hose. Ive owned many extractors and cleaned carpets for years. Never buy an extractor with less than 100 psi.

As for the heat, the handle gets so hot sometimes that I can barely grasp it any longer. Also, it only has 60 psi which is sufficient to me. For $600 you can't expect the world, but this unit delivers $600 worth of investment in my eyes.

ok . . . update, on my end at least. 3 hours on the phone with top of the line and duramaid have convinced me that their unit is worth a shot. dont mean to thread jack. A unit like the spyder or sensi is just overkill for what i do . . . their to big, to much soloution. now, if you could find a unit like the duramaid in size that had a 137 inch lift and 100+ psi i dont care who said what it would be charge don my amex card faster than a case of mg 16 would go for if sold for 100 bucks . . .

so im left with the azted (thanks danase for youe help) the duramaid, the unit from rightlook.com and one other one (cant remember at this tiem where it was) and they all look the same.

i have decided to try the duramaid, and beleive me folks . . with the ammount of time and effort i have put into this search, if this thing dosent work autopia will never hear the end of it. but, the optimist in me knows it will, and the people at top of the line and duramaid have gone out of their way, in what appeared to me very honest, and unbiassed manner, to assure me their product would preform, and if i had a problem there would be a way to get it resolved.

im not a pro detailer. Im a full time college student with a full time job. i detail because it is one of the few things that make me feel "away" from everything else. i love it . . . enough to consider the idea of making it my living. i would feel like a complete jerk if i bought something new without consulting the autopia community beforehand.

i have seen mixed reviews on this unit. hopefully mine will add to the posative side of things. I dont think any of us like speaking in an ill fashion concerning a product, so when we do, i would like to beleive members are doing it to express their discontent, and to prevent others form making a mistake with their money . . .

shaun, thanks for posting . . . i found all of this out today, and i am just now seeing your post.

Just in case it doesn't work out.....

Buy it with your credit card. If they won't give you a refund, charge it back. The credit card company will ask the retailer for his charge authorization, etc. If the paper work in in order, they will put the charge back on your card, but....Here's a little trick I learned after renting a car from Avis in Vienna, Austria.

I came home from Europe only to find Avis had charged me triple what they had quoted. I called and was basically blown off, after all I was in California. What could I do?

I disputed the charge with my credit card company and they credited my account. I immediately made other purchases and took my card to its limit. When Avis got my signature on the rental agreement to the credit card company, they agreed to put the charge back on my card, but couldn't - my card was at the limit.

soon afterwards, Avis started calling me and it was my turn to tell them to stuff it. After a few weeks, I agreed to pay less than what I was originally quoted minus my telephone bills.

I don't know if that charge back and recharge situation was normal or if credit card companies still work that way, but it is worth trying.

This guy could have the best new portable hot water extractor on the market, but after hearing about the original poster's experience, I would never give my business to a company that treats a customer with such disrespect.

Pretty much any CC (Visa, Mastercard, Discover) allow you to dispute a item charged on their cards. Chargeback is what they do the vendor.

Personally I find this to be the only valid reason for having CC's as I'm not really into spending other people's money on credit.

I never buy anything online or anywhere else (except from merchants I trust) with anything else than CC's because of this nifty little feature.

It has worked so well for me in the past I don't even bother to argue with the vendor anymore.

I try to work things out and if they want to blow me off I just tell them I'm going to dispute the charge. That get's their attention quick and fast cause it's not like the CC company asks them to give up the money, they can take it.

Having somebody with that kind of juice pulling for you makes a difference.

Hi everyone,

I also have this extractor And I love mine it works great. You can see how well it works if you go to our car detailing section and look for EXTREME interior makeover. I got mine from auto detailing solutions. He did not have any on hand but he called the manufacturer and had one drop shipped from the for me. I got it within a week. I talked to Rick at ADS and he said he has sold over 100 units and has only had one that needed to be replaced and durrmaid gave him a new one. In the owners manual mine states if you use hot tap water it will take 10 to 15 minutes to fully heat the water , if you use cold water 20 to 25 minutes to fully heat the water.

I have the Aztec unit, I've had it for 2 years. It has worked fine for me. Like previously stated, it is not a perfect machine, but I feel mine was worth the $600.

I could not justify paying double for a "real" machine so this works well for my needs.

Guys I just posted a review of the mytee lite in this same section..those of you considering the durrmaid or that level xtractor should take a hard look.. I have nothing but good things to say about it, and it's backed by a large reputable company(mytee) with authorized local service centers in many areas as well, should you need parts/service.
