Replacing my Dewalt and pads and product

Just moved out to California and left my dewalt 849 HD, 3m pads and 3m 3 step system with my brother. I'm reading on THE HEADER FOR THIS THREAD that if I'm not using a Dual action polisher I'm missing out. So since I have the opportunity to start fresh I was hoping for some feedback. I'm actually getting everything for "free" for a detail and bumper fix on a '11 Venza so I'd like to spend less than $300. I was thinking about a combo deal, though I know there are negatives.

I've looked at porter cable combos that seem pretty reasonable, but I don't know if the porter cable is good? Or what product and pad combo to get with it? I had really good luck with the 3M system but if there is something better I might as well get it while I'm buying all this stuff

This is what I was looking at, but just don't know what combo to get. So many options!!

Dual Action Orbital Polishers and pads: Porter Cable 7424 : Porter Cable 7424XP: Lake Country Buffing Foam Pads

Well thanks for any help. I'm on a phone doing this, no Internet yet out here. I'll try and watch this thread though. Thanks again

Adrian

order the GG6 Random Orbital direct from Griots (cut out the middleman if there's any problems later down the road), and they also have free shipping right now as well. also, ADS has some great deals on pads too...

Is this a good set up? Am I going to have to get a dofferent backing plate for the LC pads? Should I just stick with griots pads?

if your use to a rotary you'll find that da's are a little slower. griots polishes are not the strongest. some other good choices would be griots 6" and the megs mf system (i would proably get the 5" kit) or uno and poxy kit with 3d pads and a 5" backing plate. i don't care for the ccs type pads i prefer the flat ones. i like the griots pads their orange i find to slightly more cut than lc white. on that note i find the 3d orange to be similar to the griots orange.

Well I ended up getting the gg6 along with 3 of the flat pads (orange, grey, blue. I read multiple times people enjoyed these more) as Well as a heavier cut ccs Pad to see how I liked it. I ended up getting the smaller GG polish set with 1/2/3 polishes. I figured it was $30 so I could try it. I also ordered some Clearkote carnauba moose wax and some Blackfire wetdiamond sealant, heard really good things about bOth

Thanks for the input

Should have went with the 5.5 flats and or getting the 5" Meguiar's MF System if you want quicker correction while still being safe.

Never used the Griot's polishes so I can't comment on that four pack.

Well im used to a pretty big pad :surprised:, since I came from a Dewalt, but if these don't work out with the GG6 I can always switch. The pads only cost me $40 anyways. I could never find anything definitive on the forum about the GG polish either, i'll post up here about my thoughts.

Thanks, Adrian

You should be fine on Toyota paint with that combo. Something like german paint and you'll be wanting smaller pads, MF or a rotary.

Where do you find Clearkote carnauba moose wax? I've been having trouble finding it anywhere but the Clearkote site lately.
