Removing Undercoating from body pannels.

Went to the local detail this morning to get some dents removed.

He asked me what kind of wax i'm using and i tell him i'm using a Sealant called Klasse. He gave me this weird look and told me that sealant are really BAD for the car.

He tells me that sealants don't let the car paint BREATHE. ANd that i should ONLY use glazes that use natural oils to bring out the shine of the paint. He's currently usin meguiars products. Maybe he favors natural oils because they give a better shine when the customers come and picks up their cars, but later find that their shine diminishes a few days later ? to generate more business ?

He also told me that Zymol is really good because of that.He also told me that Zymol really lasts a long time if the procedures before applying zymol are done correctly. I always thought Zymol lasts really short.

Could there be truth to what he said ? Is Klasse really bad to paint ? Can someone reconfirm my trust in Klasse ???

HELP? he's got me questioning myself !!!

Why would a detailer want to tout a sealant that will last twice as long as the wax he currently is using. I don't buy the line about the paint breathing. I think that putting a clearcoat on the paint would pretty much eliminate such a thing. I think he's trying to sell you a pig in poke.

Klasse is NOT bad for paint. He is just trying to sell you his service, typical hack detailer. Sealants are perfectly fine to use you have nothing to worry about.

New car paints breathed once at the factory!!! after that they are dead and breath no more..

KLasse has been around a long time and works great! Good Choice!!:xyxthumbs

First off, he would of commented on the Klasse product line, seems like he didn't know the difference from Klasse to Bass....

Why would he endorse a product that last sevral months that you can apply yourself. Why not try to sell you on a product that he has to apply......... once a month and charge you an arm and a lake.

I can recall being in a SPEED shop and having the clerk tell me NOT to swap my factory sway bars for aftermarket ones. Kind of funny I told him I wanted to buy my entire suspension package from one store or I would find another .......... sooooooo odd that I could find everything in the store that was on my list expect for the sway bars.

They got to make money somehow. Sometimes they will say something so stupid; normal people like you and I will doubt it can be wrong because it sounds so stupid. There just trying to lie and scam a dollar or two out of you.

Let your common sense be your judge. Last time I check your paint couldn't breath because it had a clearcoat on top of it. Are there spores in the clear coat or something I'm missing?

Here is the deal.....

"....Late model paint technology doesn't breathe, that's an

old myth. Once it cures that's it. The older lacquers and enamels

needed time for the solvents to evaporate and release, that is where the

term "paint breathes" comes from. Wax would seal the paint and prevent

the solvents from

releasing. This led to a whole bunch of paint related problems. That's

why paint manufacturers still tell you not to apply WAX for thirty days.

Because WAX does not let the paint breathe.. and actually suffocates

it..

All urethane paints and late technology paints use a catalyst for

hardening and

curing. The paint is fully cured in about 36 to 72 hours...."

Synthetic polymer products that CONTAIN NO harmful silicone or

waxes are all breathable.....

DetailKing -

They really don't "breath" do they... The paint will breath but only for a few days. If you apply wax and it stops BRAND new paint from breathing it will stop a paint layer under it from breathing .......... correct?

I have an "old timer" customer that told me the same things about sealants. Before he would even let me touch his car with Klasse, he did all kinds of research. The thing about the silicones is right on the mark. Klasse is as safe for your paint as Zymol and it will protect and last longer. I think that he was just remembering all the things he heard about sealants back when paint wasn't as good as it is today.

Curious as to what he said would be the adverse effects of using a sealant? Because many of us do and have yet to see paint failures as a result. Course we could all be walking (riding)experiements for that theory. (First one to fail, wins! ;))

Glad this guy is out there giving detailers a bad name

The only sealants I ever recommend against are the $500+ factory sealants. I just tell my customers to save their money and I will apply Meguiars #20 if they want a polymer wax. I also tell them that far too often, the dealers use buffers with wool pads to apply the sealant (Don Davis Lincoln is real bad about that-every single car I've done with one of their dealer emblems is covered in buffer marks-and I've done some two days after the people bought them), and you end up with buffer marks.

Klasse, Zaino, etc have good reputations-but for a detailer, you do want your customers to have their cars waxed every 3 months, so I only use a polymer wax if they specifically ask me to-and they have to pay a bit more (the wax actually does cost more). Most of my high end customer want their cars waxed every month or two anyway, so a polymer wax would be a waste of money for them.

Let's see your paint needs to breath and Zymol claims you need to feed it, damn, to quote Dr. Frankenstein "It's alive ! It's alive !" No, it's dead, it's paint, seal it over and protect it! I don't know of anyone using Klasse or Zaino that is seeing thier paint fail due to lack of air.

That salesman is quite ignorant or dishonest! If he would have told me those things, I can honestly say that I would have gotten a bit upset at his ignorance or deceptiveness. Factory paint DOES NOT NEED TO BREATHE. That is a myth. Secondly, I would not take any detailing advice from a salesman. In general, most don't really know what they are talking about. This is just the plain truth of the matter. Trust the people of this board.

Klasse, Zaino, Blackfire and Meguiar's #20 are excellent sealants. I would prefer to use those products over Zymol anytime. Klasse, Zaino and Meguiar's #20 should give you up to 6 months of good protection. You'd be lucky to get 4 to 5 weeks of protection from Zymol. Laters

Don't go back to that guy for work. :down If he lies about one thing he will lie about lots of others. I would't trust him.

Hehe! You're absolutely correct LoweJackson. I wish I knew if this guy honestly doesn't know any better or is just being deceitful in an attempt to sale a product.

Removing Undercoating from body panels.

I just got my car undercoated. I was stupid Enough to lay down 2 coats of BFWD and a coat of 845 prior to this. I requested that the shop not wash it. How do I remove the oily stuff without removing the lsp?
