Refreshing a Lancer

This detail is on a 2 & half yrs old Mitsubishi lancer. When i got it, it looked kinda "tired" in the sense that the bright Mit Black paintwork looks slightly dull and there were scratches all over. Those near the door handles were even deeper and makes me wonder abt the owner's fingernails  Anyway the process is as follows:

1) Wash with Meg's NXT shampoo

2) Claybar with Erazer Clayber

3) Hyper Compound with 6.5" yellow LC with PC speed 6 for the whole car. The areas with deeper scratches were treated with hyper and 4"spot buff pads speed 6 on PC.

4) PO106FF with LC orange light cut pads with PC speed 6

5) Poorboy's S&G to clear up all the dust before OCW.

Before and after compounding:

Car looks great....I was thinking about ordering some hyper compound and PO106FF....After seeing the before and afters, you convinced me! Sometimes Optimum Compound just doesnt cut it on some of those bad scratches.

Great job on the Lancer!

Thanks all for the encouragement. I am sorry in my haste to get the before after pics of scratches and reflections, i forgot to take a proper full car shot, the best i have is the side view.

On another note, the black paint used by mitsubishi actually plays a part in getting such reflections and shine compared to say Toyota Vios's greyish black which require better lighting conditions to show the shine.

Joshua312:

The hyper, although has more cut than the compound and dust much lesser than the Powergloss, I dun think i will be getting another bottle to replace the current one which is fast running out as it takes more effort to correct defects via a PC (PG at the same speed and pressure, will require less passes). I will be getting my Hitachi Rotary soon and will try out the hyper with it and if it still doesn't cut it, the PG will be my main compound for defects.

Nice work, the paint should be single stage for the black, am I right ?

Fellow Lancer owner

Thank you. I believe it has a clear coat. My pads did not get stained at all. But is this the way to see if its clear coated?

Btw, i recently detailed a red 03 Mit Colt and my pads got dyed red. I was really surprised as my ride is also a 03 mit colt but black and mine has clear coat, (well, i deduced that since if i wetsand the car and the sandpaper did not get the black paint out, is must have a clearcoat. pls advise if I am wrong) Is this a common thing? that cars of the same make, yr, model but diff colour have single stage and clearcoat paints?

Is it metallic paint ? metallics get clearcoat and solid colors are single stage on Mitsus !

Nice to see quality wheels, OZ Superleggera's !!! I want to see full pictures too !

The OZs are stock for this car as they come together at a premium of abt 2k with bodykit and some garnishing
