Recommend best car shampoo?

Gold Class Wash was my favorite until I met Poorboys SS&S
Is it worth trying HD 3D Pink Soap?
How does it compare to SS&S?

For coatings, 3D pink is perfect and very economical. For everything else, I always like to use shampoos that adds a bit of protection (you remove a little something everytime you wipe the surface, so always add something back whenever possible).

I'm *still* mixing my 3D Pink with my Griot's Car Wash, but for anybody asking whether the 3D Pink is worth trying (heh heh..yeah, that would be you ShawnF350 :D ) the answer is simply "yeah, you oughta at least try it". Noting that you were OK with Meguiar's Gold Class which I immediately delegated to wheelwell duty as a [crappy] shampoo, I'd be very surprised if you were unhappy with the 3D Pink. Not that I've ever tried the SS&S though, so I have zero idea how it'll compare to that one.

Buying a 5-gallon bucket of the 3D Pink when it was on sale was one of my smartest detailing purchases, right up there with the gallon of IUDJ.

EDIT: I just corrected this...making it "3D" instead of "HD". Drives me nuts that they have to use the two different product-line names.

Well..I'll have to give the 3D pink a try then.
Gold Class was the best I ever found OTC before I tried Poorboys.
Lol.
Then I tried Griots which I thought was horrible.
I think Meguiars Ultimate wash is ok for OTC too.

Chemical Guys Snow Foam stinks. Good for a foam cannon is all.
I like that nice lubricity that SS&S gives.
I didn't like Poorboys Super Slick and Wax though.

Has anyone tried the 3d Wash n Wax? I may as well try that too.

Accumulator, when will you be trying Super Slick n Suds to compare to 3D pink ?
I really don't look for suds in a soap, more of that lubricity feel. Poorboys might get lots of suds but I just stir it into the bucket.

Also, I have Chemical Guys Hose Free Ecowash.
Is ONR better (anyone that has used both)?

Ah, very interesting! What did you dislike about Griot's Car Wash? Heh heh, it's my overall fave :D

Gee, if you and I somehow have utterly different opinions about the Griot's I hope you don't regret my suggestion about the 3D.

I guess GC isn't bad as OTC stuff goes, but autobody/paint supply places in my area carry stuff I like better like M62 and DuraGloss so I sorta think of those as OTC.

It's been over a year since I have used Ecowash but it worked fine and I would say it's a little bit more slick when compared to ONR. The only thing I didn't like about Ecowash was it produced suds and the suds would stick to the honeycomb portion of the grill on my truck.

I had to use quite a bit of Griots to get a nice slick feel. I really think it depends on the water we use. I haven't used that in years but I'll say it might be close to what they use in SS&S. You should give that a try. You just might ditch the Griots. I'm no chemist but now started adding an extra ounce of Poorboys for the way I like the water to feel.

I'm ordering the 3D pink tonight and their wash with wax too. I'm not in business so just getting 16oz of each to try .

Lol. I've tried Griot's - and thought it sucked. It can't compete with Sonax., 1Z, and like 30 other shampoos I've tried.

Only thing as bad as Griot's was Auto Glym. Leave that stuff in the UK.

CG's shampoos are the best bang for your buck.

But, I usually prefer Victoria Super Soap, P21S, Dodo Juice B2B... The PBMG shampoos are pretty good. They just cost too much. I think they are like $60 a gallon.

Optimum ad Duragloss are pretty sweet.

3D soap I'll never try.

Poor Boys is good as well.

DG901 is probably my favorite I've tried so far. The CG soaps I've used(citrus and mr pink) are good, too. Wish I'd just sucked it up and bought the gallon of 901 though.

3D's shampoos are terrible IMO

So is GG Car Wash or whatever it's called.

Hands down best overall shampoo with performance and cost figured in is Optimum Car Wash. There are a bunch of shampoos that you couldn't tell apart if you take the color and smell away anyways. All the top shampoos are interchangable.

I have literally tried over 80% of the Shampoos that are easily accessible to us in the states. I think I have around 70 in my closet right now.

By what standards do you judge soaps? Cleaning, rinsing, lubricity, added shine, suds, cost?

Optimum is one of my favorites but it is more difficult to rinse than some soaps. It is not a deal breaker. It has a great smell, suds great even at 1/2 the labeled dilution so perfect for foam guns and foam cannons.

I have liked most that I have tried

Poorboys super slick and suds, Ultima Paint guard plus shampoo, Lusso orro, to name my favorites.

It's amazing to me that there is so much difference in peoples thoughts on Soaps. It just goes to show how much local water supply and other elements has to do with your impression. Some soaps work better in certain areas than others.

Well..I kinda took Accumulators suggestion on the 3D, but agreeing with SilverFox too.
So bought a gallon of 3D Wash n Wax.
If it works well for my winter washing, I'll be buying the Pink Soap in the spring. I was going to buy all 3 3D soaps 16oz to try but then it's not cost effective.

Yeah, I bet the water does factor in.

I sure find the experiences/opinions on this topic interesting, even when they differ from mine.

I'm pretty sold on my Griot's/3D combo..zero issues at all.

When people say some shampoo is "not good", but don't offer specifics, well....I wonder "why does he feel that way?"

Griot's and 3D terrible? OK, maybe for you, but (noting I've used a lot of shampoos over the last ~40 years), I wonder *WHY, specifically?*.

I personally don't worry about cost, but I definitely would if I owned a business.

Just to note: my opinions are based on maintenance washing.

Rinsing and lubricity are the most important factors to me. That's why I am surprised that you have issues rinsing it. It's hard to explain and I'm sure you will know what I'm talking about, but sometimes you can just tell which ones stand out--just by using it.

There are a lot of shampoos that I would reach for.

Yeah I've always thought that, but I'm under the impression that water hardness doesn't affect much except suds...and if you're worried about suds, you just add more.

I'm no where near a chemist, so I don't know exactly if my above 'sentence' is near accurate or not.

I was probably a little crabby yesterday when I wrote the word 'terrible'. It's really a bad word when we all know you can work with a lot of these detailing products and get desired results. What I should have said is that they (3D/HD and GG) are no where near my favorites and I have had mixed results with all of them.

I've never had mixed results from AMMO, Adam's, Optimum, Garry Dean's, Gyeon, etc... There was something about these shampoos (3D/GG) that seemed like they didn't offer the slickness that others do and I'm very open minded when I use all products. (I also try to use a specific product multiple times before I form an opinion) HD wash didn't want to rinse away.

It's my opinion though, so I'm not trying to argue with you. I'm actually curious on how exactly you use them and I'll give it another shot.
