recomendation for final sealant on RED

i have a redline 350Z and I spent a lot of time detailin it to get rid of swirl marks, they just never disapear completely. But after spending a day polishing it, and then putting klasse AIO on it, I can't quite find the best "wet" look sealant for it. I tried klasse SG, and poorboys ex-p, but nothing comes close to the p21s carnauba I used to use. I don't like carnauba because it comes off after about 3 weeks. I don't like poorboys because it just doesnt look right when I'm done, it seems to be missing something, or not real glossy. I know it's definitely not very slick compared to old school waxes.

But anyways, for dark colored cars or RED like mine, what sealant is the deepest gloss? I'm open to all suggestions.

BTW I live in south florida and the heat and rain ruins wax pretty quick here, which is why I like sealants instead of carnauba.

I'd also recommend Blackfire (I love the stuff on my black car, using it for winter,) or 4* UPP as an alternative.

i tried topping the sg with p21s, and it looked beautiful. The only problem is the shine of the carnauba disapears after a week in the sun, and seems to be completely gone after 3 weeks. It completely loses that slick feeling of wax when you wash it, after just a few washes. I havent yet tried black fire, is it similar to crystal gaurd, or totally different? I did one fender with CG one time and it went on amazingly easy, was slick as ice, and repelled dirt very well. I never bought it though.

well if you don't wanna top the sealent with a wax every few washes, i would try and get a sample of fmj and try it out.

yeah I'm interested in fmj. I'll start lookin for places who carry it. I always try out new products.

Right now the products I use to detail this bizzatch on a typical saturday are these: Poorboys swirl removers/ Klasse AIO/ poorboys EX-P/ and sometimes meguiars detail spray- the finishing touch

I've had good luck with Wolfgang as far as looks and durability, even with the car sitting outside and getting hit by sprinklers every night. You know how nasty our sprinkler water is with all that sulfur! :(

Try the regular Poorboy's EX w/carnauba. I have it on a red H2 and red Excursion and both look terrific. Very rich looking on red. 2 months and 2 days since I applied it (over PwC) on the H2 and when I washed it today, it still looked great and was noticably slick. The H2 is a driver, btw. The only LSP on red I like more than EX is Souveran.

I am pretty sure the H2 is in my autopia gallery and I know it is on my website.

I used FMJ on my wife's bright red Subaru Forester. It looked great! But after a few weeks, water beading started to deteriorate. I'm a bit disappointed.

Then, I tried FMJ on my dark grey Audi and didn't like the look, so I switched to Zaino. Now my Audi has two coats of Z5 with one coat of Z2 (so far) as a topper. It looks much better than the FMJ. And, its durability is well known.

Will it look good to you on your car? I don't know. It's an option though.

Regards,

Dan.

being a beginner i am not real familiar with all the alphabets for the products but when i see fmj i know what you all are talking about. it does have a draw back. it does not last but since i am forever detailing my black chevy it does not matter... the shine and protection while it is there is very good. i am most impressed with the ease of putting it on and taking it off. there is none better IMO!!!!!

I've been told that 1Z WPS (Wax Polish Soft) is one of the best things you can use on red. I Have some and have yet to try it out. I've got a red Accord lined up to try it out on.

Apparently it lasts forever, and it's pretty easy to use. The draw backs are that you canonly buy it in the 1L containers. There have been rumors in the 1Z forum that a smaller consumer size might come out soon.

Might be worth a shot.

gto78,

I agree with Scott! EX on red is about as 'Carnauba' looking of a final sealant that I have tried. When I last had jet black paint, I used EX x 3 and then just for kicks, topped it with Souveran.

Cheers,

your totally right p21s. Try this put two coats of SG and then two coats of P21S and it will last two time longer. I do that on alot of vibrant darker colors (red, purple, lime green, orange). Leave the SG on for 24 hrs. Get Sonus Carnuba Spritz for after washes. I just noticed the carnuba shine attach to the sealent better than the carnuba. Actually sealents attach and carnubas don't.

yeah i'm getting a lot of good recomendations. I have some new ideas to try next time. I also realized I'm using way too much soap in my car wash bucket. I like lots of suds but learned that its removing the wax prematurely. so next wax will hopefully last longer.

I had pretty good luck with Meguiars #7 show car glaze topped with #26 high tech yellow wax when I lived in Orlando. I never had an issue with it failing to last between details which were usually 6-8 weeks apart.

I have lived in Florida most of my life and personally I find the environment here in SC much harsher on my finishes than the Florida sun ever was. I am using Klasse SG now and am in the same boat as you are trying to find a good topper to get the gloss and depth I am used to. Although Klasse looks darn good, it doesn't have quite the wetness or depth that #26 has.

I have been hoping for some time to get cooperation from the weather here so I could try to top with UPP but will probably have to wait for Spring at the rate things are going. From what I understand it is compatible with Klasse SG so you can layer one on top of the other whereas you would have to remove a carnauba before you could add additional layers of Klasse SG.
