Rain Dance Liquid Wax Anyone?

That's right, I said Rain Dance Liquid wax. For those of you here were fortunate to actually use this stuff when it was "the" wax to use, then you know what I am talking about.



Unfortunate to me, I ain't that old. Well, maybe I am fortunate.;)



Anyway, my grandmother passed away last year from Alzheimers. We were in the middle of building a house and instead of wasting money on rent, the family allowed us to live in her house. She has stuff EVERYWHERE. Anyway, I was looking for a funnel tonight to pour some NXT wash into my new bottle. I got to looking and in the corner of my eye, I cought a Woolight bottle. I had been needing to buy some Woolight. So, I decided to see what else she had. Near the back of all the crap that was in there, I found a bootle of Meguiar's Cleaner Wax and a box of Rain Dance Liquid Wax. Here are the pics...

As you can see by this next picture, it wasn't very "liquidy".lol

So, I started shaking it up and it started to get more liquid. The bottle still had the seal on it and everything, but the seal wasn't as adhesive as new stuff.



Do you guys think it would be OK to use? I would really like to use it. Kinda like in here honor type of thing.



It is pretty cool to find stuff like this. I found some old Turtle Wax paste down in the basement. I think I now know where I got my detailing bug from.:buffing: THANKS MAMAW!!!:thx

Cool. A relic of the 70's or 80's



At my friends uncles place in melbourne exactly this time last year I found some ampol hot wax in his laundry.

He had a few other old classic bottles



Shows us just how far we have come
 
Yeah, there is not telling what else I will find when we start cleaning the place out.



I shook it like no other for like an hour last night. I got it back into liquid form. I hope it will work. Anyone else ever use a 20 year old liquid wax?
 
Cool. That was the wax for me in my younger days. Worked good then so I think it will work well now. Not as good as todays waxes but still will do a good job.
 
RainDance was one of the first waxes I ever used. I recall really liking the shine and beading characteristics of the wax. I think seeing the car so clean and beaded up with RainDance years ago, is partially the reason I became so interested in detailing as a teenager! Imagine that!

Going through a relative's home can be a real adventure. When I cleaned out my (semi-car-nut) aunt's place in '87 she still had some of *her* old RainDance left. To be honest it did a very nice job for her on her Cordoba, the car looked great. Same ol' same ol' the process matters more than the product and she did pretty nice work (truly *excellent* work for a sick old lady, that's for sure).



The Raindance will be a little on the abrasive side, if yours is like hers was (hers was older than the bottle in your pics). But I use old products all the time and as long as they've been sealed up nice and tight they almost always work fine. Work it gently but long, think of it as a mild polish and keep it off black trim.

Cool. Thanks for the advice. I actually shook it so much and mixed it with a knife that it should be like it was. It was nice and sealed. The package had never been touched. It should work fine now. I am going to try it on my mom's Explorer. It needs a good cleaner wax until I can detail it this summer.

Heh heh, I can't resist pointing out that my favorite wax is the #16 that was first released back in the '50s ;) That RainDance was one of those newfangled cleaner-waxes back when I first used it! And the aunt I mentioned remembered when #16 was the newfangled one! She and my mother hated the older Simonize with a passion and thought the #16 was a great step forward.

Man, seeing these hip products for back in the day is SO cool.



At any rate, I have found out that the stuff works. While vidgorusly shaking the bottle, I dropped it and the top popped off and some of the product spilled out onto my hardwood floor.



While wiping off the Rain Dance, the cloth wiped up some dirt. Nw, I mop and sweep regularly. So, the fact that this stuff remoed more dirt impressed me. Well, it hazed over and I buffed it off and left to go back to work.



Later tonight, I was walking on the floor in my socks, forgetting about the wax on the floor and well, I fell.:har: Dude, you guys should feel how slick the floor is in this area.:woot:



I am definitely trying this on my moms neglected Explorer to see how it cleans and how it can shine. I will definitely post pictures.

Hmmm...24 month protection. Maybe when it warms up a bit...

Ah, Caldor. Wow, it's got chemically matched and balanced layers! Who says layering is a myth! Sounds like an Autopian product to me! ;)

I would swear my life to it. I would testify to it in the US court of law. You can ask my wife.



I can take beading water pictures and show you where the bottle is cracked if you like or the rag that I wiped it up with.



She laughed about it all night. I thought it was pretty funny also, even though it hurt.:)



I can't wait till I can get some pics of it on my moms car.



I hope it works good on white.



I highly doubt I will ever really use this stuff for full details unless I get a REALLY good results. I mainly just wanted to use it for my grandmother sake. I might just use a little and then stick it on on one of my trophy shelfs.
 
Ouch...too bad you cracked the bottle. Is it going to dry up now?



I have come pretty close to taking a header on some hardwood flooring where I had spilled something and cleaned it up and then put some furniture polish or something on it (not to mention my recent bathroom experience when I was misting 303 Shower Shield on the bathtub tile, bottom of bathtub covered as per instructions--but the mist escaped onto the floor, making it quite slippery for a few days!).

Well, I put heating a cooling duct tape over the crack. That stuff doesn't allow air or moisture through and it is strong. So, I say that it will be fine. Like I said, I will probably shelf it for memories after I use it once.



Yeah, I have taken a couple of falls on the hardwood. I have a couple of chihuahuas that like to chase me around the house.lol



That Turtle wax stuff is old.:wow:

I dropped a bottle of Pb's PP, and it cracked on the bottom...the duct tape I put on seems to be working for that.
 
MDRX8- Heh heh, I *still* think of the Mirror Glaze line as "oughta be in clear bottles" ;) I went through cases of #5 that looked just like that! Thanks for the memories, sure wish I'd kept a few of 'em.



lland- I'd keep hold of that..as I said, I wish I'd kept all my old products.



sixty7mustang22- I was thinking about this thread last night and realized that I never even saw any RainDance in plastic bottles, it was all in metal cans back when my family and I used it. Heh heh, by the sound of your spill it should've *stayed* in metal cans ;)



You're not foolin' about spills making the floor slick, I've had that happen a number of times, most recently with some Collinite 845.



And it oughta work fine on white, it works great on Chrysler light blue metallic, that's for sure. OK, maybe not like some Zymol estate glaze or Zaino, but it's sure not bad.

Sweet. I hope mine keeps it decent for long enough. If it turns out that I really like the resukts, I might just switch it into another bottle.

Well, when I went to look it up on here, I saw only one thread about it and it talked about a can. So, when I pulled it out of the box and it was a liquid plastic bottle, I was surpised.



Yeah, as clumsy as I am, I think I would stick with paste so I don't have to shake the bottle and risk dropping it.:werd:
