Rain Away... GO AWAY!!!

I put rain away on my windows and I haven't reapplied because winter is coming. Now they streak terribly. I've tried using dawn to wash off the rain away, but it does not work.

Does anybody have a "home-brew" product that will strip everything off the glass windows?

Thanks!

I will try that! Thanks!

I remember I was watching an Automotive type show and they gave a tip on how to strip everything from your glass. It was some white powder that looks like Ajax (Bleach Cleaner)...

Anyone know what I'm talking about?

I have a 17 year old BMW. To clean your winshield of anything, I

have used "Bon Ami" cleaning powder.

This is NOT sold in any store that I know of. Don't mistake this for Comit or anyrthing like that. This is an extreemly fine powder.

This is a very old formula. The only company that sells it that I know of is:

Faultless Starch / Bon Ami Company.

Kansas City, Missouri 64101-1200

I don't use it to often. It takes off all the road scum that mess up your winshield wiper blades. Try it when you install new blades.

But don't make a habit of using it. I also use "Stoner Invisable Glass" spray for winshields. I have tryed a few and this seems to work the best for keeping the road scun off.

Good luck

Walt

PS

we use it for every day cleaning also. ( Bon Ami )

It sounds like what you are experiencing is the same thing that a lot of RainX users have happen. The easiest way to keep stuff like that from streaking is to apply it before you wash your car. Wash the whole car and then wash your glass at the very end. If you do it that way then you won't have any streaking at all. If you wash your car first and then apply it, get ready for streaks. I'm a big fan of RainX and have been applying it this way for years without a problem I don't even get the windshield wiper chatter that people keep talking about. I think it works pretty well. It won't fix your streaks you have now, but it may help prevent them in the future.

Thanks everybody for the help!

I started this thread 45 mins ago! And now I have all my answers!

Wait :) One more question.

Should I order the Bon Ami Window Cleaner? (IT seems like this is a new product?)

Or should I just get the Bon Ami Cleaner Powder (THe old fashion stuff)

You might want both. Use the powder for those occassional cleanings and the glass cleaner for your regular needs.

Geekysteve gave me a can of Bon Ami glass cleaner and I think it's very nice stuff. I like Sprayway and IG as well but he feels Bon Ami is a better product and I'm sure he's right.

Thanks for all the input! I'm in the process of ordering some off the internet via Yahoo shopping.

$9.95 for 6 12oz containers of Bon Ami Powder. Thats not a bad deal!

To bad Yahoo shopping has a min of $10.00... Bastards :)

When I get this stuff i'll be happy to share the other 5 12oz containers with some Torontonian Autopians!

The quickest way to remove Rain-X is using lighter fluid. The napatha in the fluid will brake the silicone bond of the Rain-X.

:up

The solvent in Rain-X and similar products is alcohol so you might get some film removal by washing with rubbing alcohol. It's worth a try.
