Is Bon Ami an automotive product? Or household?

Which stores carry it? (That you know of...)

They carry it in the grocery stores around here. It's with the cleaning supplies. It is very gentle and does a great job.

The only "powder" to use is the ORIGIONAL Bon Ami.

This is NOT sold in stores. You can get mail order ONLY!

Dont go looking in a super market, It is not the same Bon Ami that you will find there.

There is a complete explination elseware on this site.

It might be under winshields or glass cleaners, or car maintainence.. I forgot where. Sorry

It was posted Sunday evening.

I did a search and found the thread. Interesting stuff. I haven't bought and Bon Ami for a few years- a little goes a long way.

If you let it sit on it maybe. It will remove wax though. I wouldn't recommend doing it if you had other means, but I've used it in a pinch.

Coke will take the paint off your car. But not as fast as brake fluid

I buy Bon Ami at the grocery store. It is in the aisle with household cleaners. By the way don't use any other scouring powder or you will surely scratch your car.

What's all this talk about all these cleaners and stuff? A few months ago this thread would've ended with "lighter fluid"....

A 8oz or so bottle only costs $2 here and is good as a solvent for other stuff too.

The quickest way to remove Rain-X is using lighter fluid. The napatha in the fluid will brake the silicone bond of the Rain-X.

:up

As a chemist, I can say that silicone polymers are not soluble in hydrocarbons like lighter fluid. The only way it may loosen the polymer bond to the glass is if the lighter fluid has a greater attraction to the glass than the polymer, AND, the polymer is not strongly bonded to the glass. Some silicone polymers do bond strongly to glass.

Lighter fluid WILL remove Rain-X, I should know I have done it before. Oh, Rain-X is not a polymer resin based system, it's a silicone oil based product.

Instead of Bon Ami try using Barkeeper's Friend. It comes in a can like Ajax and it's a white powder, but it's recommended for glass. It works great!

Ok, I guess my info source was wrong. If it works, it works.
