and I'm telling you it has saved me money. Not one ticket in the last 24 years and I don't always drive the speed limit. I believe that everyone here is in agreement that there are some instances that you're beat and there is no way to get around it. On other occasions laser detectors are a help.
 
IMO it is a waste of money. I'm glad to see that you have gotten away for the 24 years. If you speed that much you may not want to worry about a ticket, but worry about wrecking and the loss that comes with that which may be way worse than some little speeding ticket.

ill get the name on Monday and PM you. I'd call it active, I had zero input.

They "units" made a readar absorbing field that was 18" in diameter. The installer put one under each headlight and 1 under the front plate. The units were 2"x2"x1" in size. He even installed units IN the headlights of my LS430. He cut the lights open and put them behind the clear cover. Lookes strange but worked.

I assume you are LEO. What department are you with?

Please do. I'm very curious as to find out how this works. If it is an active unit, you could be facing some nice jail time by operating it on your vehicle.

I'd also like to know how it could protect against Ka-band radar units.

Thats for only county sheriffs not State Police they can and will write for 1 over. State to State is diffrent. I spent some time in Mississippi after the hurricane this past year assiting their local police and was told that there was only 1 county in the whole state that could run radar. Why? I don't know, but would think to cut down on speed traps and etc...This law did not apply to thier state and city police which could use it.

Yes I am. I work for the Richmond County Sheriff's Office here in Augusta, Georgia. I am currently assigned to the traffic/hit and run division.

Are you more likely to write someone up who you stop that has a radar detector opposed to someone who doesn't?

I like the silver/black scheme on the RCSO cars. Do you have a LED bar on your unit? What percent are those front windows tinted though?
 
Forutnately this radar laser appears to be leagal. It is the one manufacturer by Escort (shifter) but the installe duses additional "laser units".

Just like my signature " Don't shop at Walmart" there are a few "causes" I live by. Let the law be enforced, but dont let insurance companies profit fom it.

I try to be as fair as possible and treat everyone the same. There has been cases where I have given warnings and tickets to those who had detectors. I try not to be a smart a$$ like many out there, but I'm sure I've made my share of comments to those who have them.

No. Mine is a 2000 crown vic and at that time we were not forced to have a light bar on the top as we are now. Mine is a slick top. The newer cars do have the LED bars.

We are exempt from the tint law like most states, but are department no longer lets us tint are windows. I have seen some of our cars with 5% all around. We are a large department about 700 employees.
 
i recently was looking for a new detector and came across this website

this guy seems to review alot of detectors and recommends the BEL RX65 Pro Radar/Laser Detector or Escort 8500 X50

i don't know if the info is all for marketing purposes but it seems as he test out alot of equipment and has pretty good reviews

he also says he give you $5000 for a passive jammer that works, Radar Roy says they just don't work

maybe you can find some info up here that will help

Can you say, "Set up"?

I would imagine some cops are as angry about these laser devices as computer programmers are about global outsourcing. But the reality is the percentage of people with the "real thing" in their car is so minute it is measured in thousandths of a percent.

Imagine reading a headline like this in "Geek Week" or any other random technical periodical - "Ill give you $5,000 for the home address of an IT manager being romanced by outsourcing salespeople, I dont believe it happens!" -John Computer Guy.
 
Most passive jammers have been proven to be fairly hit-or-miss by the various places that test them. Sometimes they work, sometimes they don't.

Several shifters have been proven to be very consistent in being able to disrupt laser, in tests by those same sources.

Shifters are also legal, vs. jammers which are not. :)
