I've been a fan of nascar for so long I remember when they used to race
actual stock cars. I've tried to stay loyal as rules have changed and the sport has become mainstream. After watching sunday's race in Talledega I think I may have been dealt the final blow.
Now I have never been a fan of restrictor plate racing (
who is?), but I cannot believe the crap they pawned off as a race. I feel pity toward anyone that paid good money in this economy to watch that 4 hour "parade" that had a few crashed floats. I'm so aggravated I was yelling at the TV for about 10 minutes when it was over. What kind of racing has this become when good cars just drop to the back because they are literally
afraid to race at the front for fear of being caught up in a big crash. I understand the logic and can't really argue with it, as JJ proved it's worth. But how crappy is that to watch?? Then all day guys just driving around waiting for the end to actually RACE. Harvick actually was so bored he said on the radio he wished he had his IPOD. ME TOO!!!! Then I saw Knaus on NASCAR NOW on speed and he was saying how exciting the race was to watch (
more screaming at the TV). Yeah, when you're in first place and you see other contenders on their roofs I'm sure your excited you snide little *&%$@!.
And the sad fact that this "random disaster" they call restrictor plate racing has such weight on the championship!! Poor Mark Martin! He and Gordon both got caught, totally none of their own doing as usual, except now JJ has the championship in the bag. I'm not sure I can even watch any more races now. How is this exciting to watch? It happens at every race w/ the plates....eventually someone pushes too far and because it's a traffic jam 1/2 the field gets collected. I really think after more than 25 years of loyalty they may have pushed me too far this time. I'm sooooo pissed I am even going to do something I very rarely do..... use smilies! :cursing: :banghead:

:cursing:
so my question is....am I being over-sensitive or has Nascar really turned a corner with it's "close competition no matter what" BS? I long for the days of REAL STOCK CARS. The cars are basically the same now, some of the models they race even have 4 door counterparts in the showroom. I think if a manufacturer built a better stock car they should win every race, too bad, let the other guys step it up. GET RID OF PLATES. If they have to stop racing at superspeedways, so be it.
What other kind of racing has competitors actually pushing each other around the track? And god forbid you have a great car and no one likes you and you have to race alone.....you have no chance of winning.
your thoughts?
