Question: Effect of QD over just applied wax

Got 2 questions for you folks...

I know that a majority of sealants need time (12 hrs, 24 hrs, etc.) to cure after they have been applied and buffed off. During this time, I do not apply another LSP, QD, or use the car if possible. However, the question I have is: Does this generally to carnauba-based LSP's?

I have been using #16 as my winter wax...it provides a great look and the durability that I need. I just applied it today since the weather is beautiful (TX has a nasty habit of being below 30 degrees one day and then 70 degrees the next day). Naturally, I applied it slightly thick on one panel - I removed the excess with some QD (Long Haul TG). What I found was that the look was actually enhanced...little bit more pop w/o any impact on the depth. I would like to know if I would would be compromising my layer new wax if I QD'ed the rest of my car . I literally just buffed off the wax about 10 minutes ago.

Thanks in advance...MCA

You should be fine, actually it will help remove any excess wax left behind. By all means drive your car after applying any LSP. If any dust settles use a QD to remove or use a QD if applying more layers.

Many QD's have gloss enhancing agents (usually in the form of polymers or carnauba content) that can add some additional pop even over a freshly waxed surface especially when using a heavy wax like #16, Blitz, Collinite, etc. This has been my finding anways. When you start talking about "boutique" waxes such as Souveran, Natty's Blue, P21S, etc. it is less noticable. I always go over a freshly waxed surface with a QD (I try to stay away from #34 here) to get any residue I may have missed during buffing and by the time you go to add another layer of wax, the QD is long gone anyways.

You could wax right over a QD, but some QD's leave enough protection behind that they could theoretically interfere with the bonding of certain finicky sealants (Zaino and SG, namely).

Of course, YMMV.

I dont know the specific answer to your first question but what i try to do is to have nothing touch the car. I like to just leave the car in the garage and do nothing with it for the curing period. afterwards ill just use a QD to wipe off collected dust and then continue on with the process.

I've noticed that carnauba QD's enhance the look of a freshly waxed surface by a noticable degree. I find that slickness is also improved.

my apologies for highjacking, but is it ok that i applied a layer of carnauba like 30 mins after i buffed off the sealant?

With ost sealants it is recommended to allow to bond for 12-24 hours before topping with wax.

As for QD'ing after wax, if the car is being driven straight after waxing I will QD and clean up any resdidues left from polishing and waxing.

Normally I will garage the car, and then QD it the next day before adding another of wax.
