Question about swirl remover

jliao,

Are you nuts!

I would never, ever PC my car in the sun. NEVER!

Since you can't go to the park with a PC, I would wait till the sun goes partially down and then PC. It may take you 2-3 evenings (or very early mornings) to do the whole car. I have also done this before. But you may have to wash the car each day prior.

Dammit! I guess I'll be staying overnight to get my car done. Take my 500 Watts light out and light the driver way and start working! :)

Don't feel too bad, Jliao. All my detailing is done curbside.

BTW, where are you located? You can go back into your User CP and add either a city or state or region (at least what country). Sometimes, your location makes a difference in the advice you'll get. :up

Will do!

I'm located at Venutra, California. To be exact, it would be Thousand Oaks, 30 mins from Santa Monica, an hour from Santa Barbra.

Lynn,

Can someone force all registrants (new and old) to fill in at least the state that they are in? I was saying the same thing as I formulated a response. What part of the country are we talking about? Not the first time. I went back to a prev msg and they said SoCal.

Alot of users don't have this filled-in. It sure would be helpful.

Something just came thru my mind while waiting for the evil sun  . If I wait for the sun to go down, how would I be able to tell my result if there is no sun? and how far should I go with the DACP if I can't see any result?

Thanks

YES! I wanna thank you all for taking your time and help me out with everything! I just start working on it with DACP on the hood, and it works JUST FINe!!! WOO~

However, now my only problem is that while I'm doing my buffering, I get little micro white dots going all over my hood from the buffer, why is that?

Did you clay the finish first? Sounds like dirt particles trapped and making the DACP cling to them. I've seen this often and it happens to any type of polish if you do not clay first to make sure you get ALL the surface dirt off. The DACP is cutting the finish, and it gets hung-up on those little mounds. Also check your pads as well, make sure they are clean and not hiding any dirt as well.

Try re-claying the finish. Check it again after you clay by putting your hand in a "baggie" and glide it over the finish. If you feel any small bump, hit it again with the clay. Dry and check again. Once smooth, you sould not get those white dots!!

only way I see a PC damaging paint is without using a pad and just using the velco backing plate or using the PC as a blunt object to hit the paint.

Hey man, that velcro pad works wonders on those little clearcoat nibs that boil up every once in a while...

Clay? no body mentioned it about clay. Also, I don't think it's the dirt particle. I think it's the polish that dried up and when the buffer start running it spins it out... :/

Not sure if it's this descriptive enough..

You HAVE to clay it B4 you polish! You want the finish as smooth as possible B4 polishing. When you polish and hit one of those dirt particles, it seems like a big hill to the polish. If the polish cannot break it, you end up with the polish on top of it and get the white dots.

Go get some detailing clay. Clay-Magic, Mothers, Zaino etc and a QD or mix some wash and water in a spray bottle for lube. Spray a small area and go over with the clay. Dry it, go over the next area. Repeat and then wash you car once more. THEN polish your finish.

It's like painting the finish, and a dust particle got trapped in the paint. When you wetsand it, you sometimes "catch" these and you feel it! If it breaks and no other paint pulls off, great, or it's off to re-spray and cure again. Dust and dirt are enemy number 1!

If you used a more aggressive polish/pad combo, you may break them off while polishing, especially with a rotary as they get more hot.

Try the clay B4 you pull your hair out and get frustrated. DACP is great stuff, but if dirt is present, you have problems.

Wow, I didn't know you're suppose to clay your car before using DACP. I just simply followed this guideline (http://www.autopia.org/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=14213). Also, I have use my finger to slide over the surface and it seems fine, no little "bumps", perhaps it's my foam pad it's dirty?. In addition, if I do clay it, I doubt I am going to finish my car in one day with washing, claying, DACP, and wax. What do you guys usually do? split it up into several days?

Thanks
