Question about swirl remover

Ahhh Ok

I'll shop around for a PC 7336SP, and hopefully I can get those swirls out before I burn the paint. :-/

Thank you all for the wonderful help, I've learned alot in car detailing from this website as well as the tips you guys gave me!

Thanks~

I'm about to get the PC 7336SP in couple of days. Something just came up to my mind, I was wondering how do you use PC? Do you lay the whole surface of pad on the car? or only the edge of the pad on the car? Also, what is the motion that I have to go with PC?

In addition, I hope this is not too much trouble. However, I do not know what those pad that I need to use look like (as on CMA website, there are so many~~~ ), could someone direct me on the CMA website which one it is? I'd be greatly appreciated. As all of you can see, I'm fairly new to car detailing, I'm in the process of learning them. :P

Thanks~

For the PC, an Orange pad will do most cleaning/polishing, the white is more strickly polish and grey is only finish.

Depending on swirl level, most of us have very good results with Meguiars DACP. Removes defects (swirls if not severe, and polishes).

The #9 does work well too. I'd try this first if you are not comfortable with the PC yet. Work it in a small section untill almost dry and remove the polish with a MF towel and check results. If it's working, good continue, if it seems it MAY be working, but some remain, try a bit longer working it and check again. If it's not getting better, try DACP.

Some other swirl removers are more of a "masking" type. In other words, the filler it uses will deplete in time and there they are once more. Some other polishes have a longer learning curve.

Have fun with the PC, you may want to get a copy of the Autopia Detailing guide, go to "shop", then Boutique and download version 2.0 for now. First 9 chapters are free.

Also look into the CMA website for more info as well.

Just take your time, you'll get the hang of it in no time!

Get yourself some MF towles from PAKSHAK, get some 16x16 and one waffel weave for drying. I use a CWB (CA Water Blade) to get the big water off fast, followed by the waffel towel. Works for me on my new '03 Lexus SC430!

Keep us posted, and learn from all the pro's here! There are many and all have good info and can asssist you.

Thank you all for all the replies, I really really appreciated. As of today, I just special order a PC 7336SP, it should be delievered on 7/8. The weekend of 8th, I will begin my swirl removing job! Hopefully all the tips and helps I've learn from all of you pros here will get rid of my swirls!

Again, thanks for all the informative links and help!

Thanks ^_^

Okay, I got my PC 7336SP today and going to start the swirl removing tomorrow.

One last question, I turned on the PC today and dialed the speed to 5, to me it spins really fast. I was wondering is it safe to use speed 5 applying with Meguiar #9 Swirl Remover? I don't wanna burn the paint, or burn the clearcoat.

Thanks

you won't even touch the paint with #9 let alone the porter cable doing it. the pc doesn't generate enough heat to hurt the clearcoat, only a rotary like the makita has enough torque to burn through the paint. use a speed of 4.5 or 5 to work the #9 in, i only use 6 if im using finesse it 2 polish.

Yes they spin like hell and I'm sure you may be a bit intimidated. As you get ready, drape the cord over your shoulder so it does not drag on the paint. Put your polish, a small strip on the finish, with the PC off, rub the pad over the product. Then, with it flat, turn it on. Work or move your product over the area, but don't try to do too much at first. As the polish "breaks-down", or looks as if it's drying, turn it off while you move it back-and forth and check your work. If the #9 does not work, most of us had very good results with Megs DACP. Again, do a small area at a time. Once you get the hang of it, go to another area and keep going, and checking results.

Pad maintenance is also a good thing to master and ther are posts on that as well.

You'll start loving this thing, getting more pads for different polish or glazes.

Don't go with those "Bonnet" covers! Use your good 'ol hands to wipe or remove your polish and glaze. DO NOT PRESS DOWN HARD with a MF if it is hard to remove or you'll just start adding marring to the area you just worked on. Use a spray bottle of distilled water or a QD spray to go over the tuff stuff that does not come off easy. Wipe again, and see how it looks.

Have fun with it!!!

Also, try to avoid turning the PC on at high speed if it's not on anything (unloaded)- the spinning motion is a byproduct and is stressful for the pad/backing plate. Turn it on and off while its resting on the paint.

Thanks for all the help guys! I really really appreciated!

I hope by tomorrow morning I can get majority of my swirls out. :)

*sigh* After working for an hour on the hood itself, the swirls still appear. I guess I'm going to try and use DACP, hopefully that will get rid of my swirls. Now that the sun is out and bright (damn the SoCal), I can't work on my car~~ >_<

:lol that's funny: >_<

I guess your swirls are worse than "light" then. I don't know what pads you have available, but try DACP/polishing first on a spot and see if you like that. If not then try DACP/cutting. This might or might not leave a fine hazing that will come out with #9 again. Good luck!

About the polishing pad. Today I used one of the Meguiar yellow pad on #9, can I wash that pad and use it on the DACP? or should I get another one? or use the white one that came with my 7336SP? They're kinda expensive.. >_<

Just wash it well and it should be fine. Not everyone suggests this, but there are many that do this.

Man, the sun here in SoCal is killing me. I have to work everyday until 6pm so I don't have time to work on my car during the weekdays. When it finally comes to weekend, the sun is out and bright, and my car surface is nice and hot. The only place I can work on my car is my drive way, and it is directly open to the sky with the sun right above it.

Should I still try and polish my car with my car surface is hot (I know it's not a good idea)? It is 4:34PM right now and it's hot and sun is out....

what should I do!! T.T

Many years ago when I had my beater car, I would wash the car and then seek shade in a park (but don't go under a tree) or quiet part of a parking lot to polish and wax the car. Some people would be doing the same thing or some would just stop by just to chat. It worked for me until I got my garage. My next garage will be heated/ac with drain so that I can wash, wax anytime of day, anytime of year.

I could probably find a shaded spot. However, can I still polish and wax my car with PC when my car surface is blazing hot?
