QS vs FD.. My Take!

Well, these are my results with early testing.

FD :

1- More of a carnauba look and feel to finish.

2- Warm glow to presentation.

3- There is a little resistance between buffing towel and paint.

4- Paint feels slicker.

5- Really makes the metallic flakes pop out like the milky way.

QS

1- More of a polymer look and feel to finish.

2- High reflectivity to presentation.

3- There is almost no resistance between buffing towel and paint.

4- Paint feels slickest.

5- Bugs or tar or projectiles will deflect right off surface.

So my opinion is that FD acts like a quick carnauba and QS acts like a quick polymer or acrylic. So it's an individual preference on selection. I will use both products because I really like the slickness of QS and also lreally like the warm glow the FD adds to my carnauba.

Another note, I have been looking for years for a product which would squelch the squealing of my power windows rubbing against the gaskets and weatherstripping. QS seems to have done this today. We will see long term in the coming weeks.

Anyone else agree with my findings?

Damn, same thing I was finding! Love the FD for a warmer look on Souveran.

I tried the QS on a new rental Chevy Trail Blazer (silver) and it made it really shine up, very brighter.

Have yet to try QS on windows.

Same as feel on say a Autopia CBT or DF towel. With FD, a bit more resistance.

With QS, not as bad. Still not as slick as Zaino Z6 was. Had a hard time controlling towels with that on the finish! Towels would slide all over!

Got my eye on neighbors black BMW to try QS and FD on... Will see...

I agree, I find the FD to give a much warmer look with a lot of gloss. QS seems to be a much better cleaner and leave the surface very slick with some reflectivity but for my color (White) it leaves very little gloss. I am happy that I found FD after someone here mentioned it, and you cant beat the price. I definately agree with how it feels under the towel product to paint. Nothing at all like QS, you dont slide on the paint, more like your dragging but still plenty of lubrication.

I still have a gallon of QS but when I QD lately I just cant stop using the FD. Im already through a half gallon in 15 days, I gave a small sample to a few friends, all absolutely loved it. I put it over Klasse SG today, Im peeking out the window every time I get up ( I cant be the only one who does that?) it looks sooooo nice on Alpine White

One thing you forgot, FD smells nice too

Thanks Aurora 4.0.

I picked up a gallon of FD a couple of weeks ago when I was in Boston ( GO RED SOX!!!).

I simply love this stuff. Gloss, depth, easy to apply, very low dust attraction ( amazing since it has silicone), and did a water test (hose) and the water just lierally "jumps" off the paint. Very good compliment to Zaino (Z28) and EX/Souveran (LS400). Using Z6 for post washing prep layering QD.

Now I understand why you were so high ( on your list ;) ) on this product. :bow

Ha ha, yeah I am high on that stuff. I can't get enough of the Final Detail and a DF Towel. Simply heaven... It really added an extra pop to the Zaino. And it really does change the water-shedding behavior. I liked the Z6 a lot, but man, FD is just so amazing and so cheap! Glad you finally got some Edwin! It's a good thing you only ordered a 16 oz bottle of FI, not the gallon!!

I like the Final Detail too. And contrary to what others have said, I find it works great on the windows...better than any other QD I have tried on windows.

I like FD better than Z6. Water pools and disappears. even thru a portion of rain, once you stop your hood is dry! So is that the FD, or the P21s, or the comination of both?

It is nice to be able to keep the truck pretty without major work. FD is worth it's cost even if just for that.

I believe that FD is noticably glossier than Z6 or am I confusing this with the added depth?

Ha ha, good question. I noticed it made my Z'd Aurora look wetter. And looking at the paint at a shallow angle (like looking across the hood) made it look more red. Previously it was very reflective when looking like this, almost like a mirror, and you could barely tell the paint was red. Now it has that same reflection, but tinted wet red. It seemed glossier, but perhaps this is depth? It seems like maybe gloss and depth go hand-in-hand? The paint definitely looks more wet, so that seemed like gloss to me...

Whatever it is, the car looks super Zaino reflective but also super wet red now! :D

What exactly are the differences between the FD and FI? I bought some #34 FI which is supposed to be the professional QD that body shops use. I think I saw the Meguires FD in the Maroon bottle at the local Canadian Tire store. I hear some people rave about FI and now FD. What gives?

FD is from the Megs detailer line only availible in gallons, Its not body shop safe and is glossier than FI because it contains silicones.

FI looks similar, not as glossy but is body shop safe.

FD and QS seem to make a Dynamic Duo.

After a wash when there is beaded water on the car I FD with a Watersprite synthetic chamois getting 95% of the water then QS with a Fieldcrest terry towel to get the misty layer of water that is left. I use the FD liberally and the QS sparingly as I prefer a carnauba presentation over a polymer one.

I tried the reverse but the FD seemed to have a little grab with the terry towel which I don't like.

I seem to be getting the best of the both worlds :

the warmth of carnauba during the day and the candy coated

electric neon light look in the evening.

Am I the only one who caught that Deanski used his QS on a rental? If you take a rental back fully detailed, do they lower their charge? (I've never had a clean rental, and have always been forced to clean them to an acceptable level for me to drive. But I only do a wash and quick interior).

FalconGuy, you're not the only one who peeks out the window at their car whenever you get up. Glad to hear I'm not the only one. I'll have to get some FD for my arctic pearl white, as it can be tricky to give it that elusive "pop" I'm always after (Megs #26 has been the best wax so far, so I'm assuming a carnauba product is what I'm after)

Dave.

Not to worry on cost as my company is paying... The 98 Escort Wagon blew the timing belt, bending 5 valves.

Anyway, this AM, I went out with the QS and gave it another quick shot. Boy, silver does look nice with this stuff!

Later today, did the SC430 with FD. Finding that the DFTowel is now gliding around almost as it did with Zaino/Z6 combo. With Souveran Paste and FD, it's pretty close as to the glide effects.

Much more deeper looking with FD IMO.

If I could get more time to strip the SC down again and remove the small amount of spider web type marks I'd be happy, but need the wife to leave for a day so I can do it. Just bugs me at night lighting under HPS lamps, see the damn things!

Interesting putting OS on windows. Did it to the Blazer. Not too many bugs stick now!

Final Detail can be purchased through a local Megs. distributor. Most likely this will come in the form of a automotive paint store that carries the Megs. professional line. If you go to Megs. website, you can do a search for a store in your area that carries the pro line. They will either have it in stock or be able to get it for you within about a day. Usually, it takes my local place about an hour to get anything I need.

So I got Final Detail today. Wow, this stuff makes the paint slicker than snot. It noticeably deepened the paint on which I have PUPP. Now that I've got both and given the cost difference, well they still both have a place in my arsenal. Love them both, but I am really really impressed with FD.
